While others just want to come out on top in an apocalypse, Truth hopes to take down an evil god, in the epic final installment of this urban fantasy series.

Truth knows everything about the mind-controlling Starbrite. Well, everything except for who it is, where it comes from, and where it is right now. Without anything to identify his world's creator, the question remains: Can he actually kill the malignant entity believed to have the lifespan of the stars themselves?

Somewhere, high above the calamity it's caused, Starbrite still reigns. Unseeable and enigmatic, it touches the world through the minds of its slaves. But Truth is far from alone in wanting to topple the king of the world. From corporate boardrooms and suburban homes to brutal battlefields, it seems everyone has a scheme of their own. And lurking behind the chaos is the shadow of Merkovah, the ancient spymaster who's spent six hundred years trying to bring down Starbrite. There are few things he wouldn't sacrifice to achieve victory now. But when everyone has their own agenda, who can you trust?

It turns out, if you need to bring down a god, scammers and a marketing department will do the trick. With his new team behind him, Truth plans to use Starbrite's own resources to break its heavy grip on the people. And as Starbrite's followers begin losing their faith, Truth will sharpen his sword and prepare to cut off the head of the snake.

But in a dying world convulsed with war, conspiracy, and revolution, Truth may have to pull off something even more impossible than killing an unknowable tyrant: persuading the world that there is still hope. He'll need to show everyone there are things worth fighting for, and he'll use every dirty trick in the book to do it—because Starbrite has ruled the world for far too long. He's starting to look less like a god and more like a cornered rat these days. And there's nothing a cornered rat won't do to survive . . .

I really enjoyed this series. It was well written and performed. One of the best stories I've listened to so far this year. The first book got my attention so i tried the next one. It was just as good. Often the follow up books loose focus and drive, dragging on until the story finally wraps up. Not this series! Full tilt action all the way to the end.

Good ending but it could have stretched out some more. Wanted more details on sibs and professor!!

Good but not perfect

Wonderful story with unique cultivation and cyberpunk elements and some interesting dives into philosophy. can't recommend the while series enough.

Love this story, followed it since early on when it was hosted on Royal Road. So much philosophy and intrigue and action and fun. For a heroes journey, I haven't seen a more thorough remolding of a hero in ages. For cyberpunk it is us and its our future and it's space and magic, I was absolutely enthralled by the dystopian world building a cursed existence. I mean society working against you is normal, corpos eating you and spitting you out, but that stellar eminence being against you is something frekin else.
I love truth, now I haven't lived a life as bad as truth but I have met some that have. I have lived 'slum adjacent' and it's allowed me to have a lot of perspective this story doesn't take his pain lightly, forces him to work through his issues lest he be consumed by them, and it shows all the ways that a society this fucked makes so many people fail.
The performance is incredible, he's now the voice of truth to me. About as good a performance as possible that can be done by one person.

Freshest Genre remix

I'm five? books into this mess and if the actual plot and action wasn't redeeming I'd have dropped it at book two. FFS I wish the author would stop ruining the story with whatever agnostic or atheist mental hang up they have and feel the need to preach at us. just skipped two chapters in a row of the crap.

Just skip crappy philosophy chapters
