Welcome to year two at Weatherstone College…
Last year, after coming face to face with darkness and lethal monsters, Logan Kingston, my sworn enemy and sometimes ally, brought my first year to an explosive ending. There’s a bond between us that I can’t explain, but I just know he’s hiding something. Maybe I don’t fully trust any spellcaster, but there’s no denying my draw to him.
I’m not going to lie, I haven’t felt myself since then, and I’m dreading returning to Weatherstone. But secrets inevitably unravel, and when the truth comes to light, I have no idea who will be left standing.
“A fun, magical enemies to lovers read that you don’t want to miss!”—JASMINE MAS, New York Times bestselling author of Blood of Hercules

I really enjoyed this sequel. It was a slower build than Spellcaster, and at first I found myself wanting the story to move a little faster because I was dying for answers. As it progressed, though, I realized that the slower pace had a purpose. It gave the relationship time to deepen, allowed trust to develop naturally, and slowly revealed more about Logan and his past.
I especially appreciated that the story actually answered the questions it raised. There were a few points toward the end where I wasn’t sure how everything could possibly be resolved in the time remaining, but the author pulled the different threads together surprisingly well. The curse involving Logan’s father was resolved faster than I expected, but the larger conflict with the council gave the ending the weight it needed. I finished feeling satisfied rather than like the book was simply setting me up to buy the next one.
My biggest complaint was that the romance became a little too sappy and repetitive once the relationship was established. Some of Logan’s endearing lines were repeated enough that they started losing their impact, and the F-word was also overused for my taste. I would have loved a little more development of some of the side characters as well.
The narration was excellent. The duet performance was a huge part of why I enjoyed this series in audio, and both narrators made the characters feel distinct and natural rather than distracting me from the story.
Overall, not quite the five-star experience Spellcaster was for me, but a very enjoyable and satisfying sequel that actually moved the story forward and delivered answers.
