Gritty Space Saga with Heart

I went into this looking for something to keep me company during long drives, and it ended up being way more enjoyable than I expected. Ten full books is no small commitment, but the story kept me coming back.

The best part? The characters. Captain Keyes isn’t your typical sci-fi hero—he’s older, a little worn down, and stuck with a crew that’s more oddball than elite. But that’s what makes it feel real. They don’t always get it right, and the stakes feel earned.

There’s plenty of action—big space battles, mechs, alien threats—but it never felt like empty noise. Even in the middle of the chaos, the story still circles back to the people involved. A few parts dragged a little here and there, but nothing that made me want to stop.

Mark Boyett absolutely nails the narration. He gives life to a wide cast of characters without it sounding forced or overdone. Easy to follow, with just enough flavor to keep things interesting.

If you’re looking for a mix of military sci-fi, character drama, and some genuinely fun worldbuilding, this box set delivers. Great value for the amount of story you get.

Another box set!

No, I’m not upset about another box set. In fact I like box sets. Now saying that, they need to be a story that I don’t want to end. I REALLY enjoyed Ship of Prophecy box set. It is one of 3 or 4 box sets that I will listen to multiple times. I keep them downloaded so if I get to someplace without internet and without even radio, I have something enjoyable to listen to. I highly recommend Ship of Prophecy.

Very good story premis

Over all the story was good and the narrator was good but the interjections of politics irritated me. But that’s just my taste in books.

Voice actor is great. Story is just average.

Corporations bad pretty much sums things up. The evil villain monologue in chapter 48 of the first book (super carrier) is so cheesy. I can just see the scene from Aladdin where the grand vizier turns into a snake.

Basically… “we’re bad and we like being bad!“

However the world building is pretty decent.

To clarify, I only mad it through the first half of book 1. It’s not bad. Just… meh. Maybe it gets better.

Great series

An author like this, who can manipulate your emotions from anger to sadness, is a true storyteller. In over 70-plus hours, the twists of this series are not predictable, and the storyline is never boring.

What does happen when AI gains sentience??

I like the multiple characters being integral to the story arc while being independent of each other, some character traits being duplicated but within reason, a few to many Hail Mary's but it's a long series so par for the course. Good stories, good characters makes this a must listen for space opera/military lovers.

Entertaining set of 3 series

The Ship of Prophecy box set is made of 3 different series that build off of each other. the first 3 books are the Ixan prophecies trilogy. I really enjoyed the trilogy following Captain Keyes on the ship the Providence and crew made up of multiple alien species. I enjoyed the character development and interactions of the characters overall. The books themselves were quick listens and left me wanting to get to the next chapter to hear what happened and how Captain Keyes and his crew would get out of the situation they were currently in. The end of the series left me wanting more and excited to get to book 4.

Books 4-7 were the Mech Wars series. This was a good series and I enjoyed the character interactions and their growth. I also liked how we were able to explore a different part of the universe Scott Bartlett created for us. You follow Jake Price as he trains to become a Mech operator as they fight the quatro aliens in their system and protect their homes. There are a lot of intense and fast paced battles and slower scenes showing a lot of character developmen and intrigue. While I do not think this series was as good as the Ixan Prophecies, the series itself was very enjoyable.

The last series was the Ixan Legacy. This series has some familiar characters and continued the success of the first 3 series. I personally felt some aspects of this series were a little heavy handed and distracted from the more interesting conflicts, but wasn't a bad series. While this was my least favorite of the 3 series, I think the world and the stories Scott has built and told were very entertaining and enjoyed the books.

I liked everything overall. Stories without the main characters being killed is what I like. The hero wins the day the bad guy pays the price.

Highly enjoyable

Long winding yet interesting storyline with plenty of suspense and mystery. The narrator was fantastic.

Decent story with a few unexpected surprises

Good stories, couple hiccups in the performance where the narration got cut short at the end of a chapter. Probably due to editing. Otherwise I would recommend the story.
