When winter comes to the Court of Dreams, the war against the Subterranean of Nightmares freezes.

To celebrate, the faerie queen holds a tournament where mortals compete for the prize of a dream come true. For outsider Willow Nightstalk, it's the only way to break the curse making her as ugly as she feels.

But the deadly tournament has a darker purpose—to flush out flawed mortal blights on the perfectly pretty fae society… and to kill them. Any left alive are conscripted when war returns in spring. When the coveted prize can give you anything your heart desires, allies are likelier to stab you in your sleep than save you.

Surviving means securing the highly contested patronage of the powerful fae nobility. But when the notoriously recluse House of Shadow is the only option left, the odds are stacked against her. Especially since it's led by the six beautiful fae boogeymen who ruined her life. Then, the unthinkable happens. For the first time in years, the House of Shadow chooses a protégé.

Her.

Nothing is as it seems in the Court of Dreams, least of all the Nightmares.

Castle of Nevers and Nightmares is a slow-burn dystopian fantasy romance novel where the underdog heroine finds her inner power and the six villains learn to love. The tension is hot, and the world-building is full of intrigue. It's the first in the Fae Devils series, a Fae Guardians spinoff that will continue with a standalone world and story. Listening to the Fae Guardians is unnecessary to enjoy this story, but it can enhance your listening experience as these characters have a past. It is recommended for mature listeners.

This book is my favorite of all the books Lana has written.
She makes you feel the extreme sadness, loathing and love.
This book make me laugh out loud with headphones in multiple times.
I hope she comes out with the third quickly. I hate leaving books on cliffhangers.
I normally won’t even read until it’s finished.

But this book earns a spot in my 2026 favorite books of the year!
I loved every second of it. She sucked me in straight from beginning to end.

I loved this book!

great Segway into a new realm. I'm excited to read what's next where the cliffhanger ending left us.

intriguing

I read the book first and absolutely loved the characters. Lana Pecherczyk wrote a complex exciting story.
Having the narrators bring it to life was even more amazing. The emotion and feeling were spot on and I can't wait to listen to book two.

Really cool story, will definitely re-read/re-listen. 2 things:

1)Took me a minute to get off the ground and understand what was going on. The story starts with little background and no explanation of terms or of the world build, so it feels like you're jumping in mid-story. Once you get past that it gets good.

2)The only thing that really bothers me, is how self-centered the FMC is. It doesn't change much or really even get acknowledged. In fact they go on about how big hearted she is, but her actions don't back it up. She always thinks about herself and how things affect her first and foremost, and tends to be immature. For example, when her mate was making an important sacrifice for his brother and the hive she literally made it ALL about her and her insecurities -- I lost a lot of respect for her at that scene. Her mates literally have centuries of life and are struggling, people are starving and dying, and she has a kingdom she is neglecting -- meanwhile she makes no effort to actually get to know them, educate herself, or take on responsibility. Halfway through book 2 and haven't seen meaningful character growth yet.

Really like this series, but...
