A reformed rogue who yearns for a love match. A widow who's been tossed from her home. A house party meant to bring lovers together...
Reed Davenport is a womanizer enjoying a carefree life until his beloved father dies. Now Viscount Boxling, Reed takes his responsibilities seriously, including providing an heir. He turns to the Duchess of Camden, famed for her matchmaking skills, and puts himself in her hands, hoping he will find not only his viscountess—but love.
Vanessa Hughes, Lady Hockley, is a widow whose husband made her feel worthless. With her year of mourning at an end, her stepson demands she leave the family estate. Raging at her dead husband's grave, Vanessa meets a remarkable countess who invites Vanessa to a house party she is hosting.
Can Vanessa find a new husband who will see her for who she truly is—and is Reed the man who will finally bring love into her life?

The brilliance of the hero being a great hero is how he saw her trauma without saying it, loved her regardless, & always gently met her where she was in an honest way. The love scene was beautiful & in context. It highlighted the kind of protective & gentle care hero had for heroine. I teared up then, too.
The HEA wasn't just that the couple ends up together, or that "bad guys pay;" but that heroine's heart begins to heal. By the end, she knows who her friends are (she finally has some) & has just enough chutpah to not fall prey to those who aren't. Very well done how hero praised her & encouraged her throughout. Just a great-fitting tender loving couple in this book of the series, a series of which I've listened to all but 2.
For some reason this one touched my heart & made me tear up just a bit more than most. With over 1000 audiobooks under my belt, only a handful really do that. In this case, I think it was the heroine's transformation from friend-less, love-less, & family-less to friend-filled, love-filled, & family-filled. She went from alone to supported. The people who cared about her were kind, gentle, supportive, helpful, and encouraging without pity. They respected her. Who of us doesn't need more of all of that?
