Magic weapons. Deadly monsters. Epic quests. It's all just another day in the life of a Vigil.

Boyd Knight found his calling when he joined the Marines and qualified for the elite Force Recon. He'd found a tribe and a family, so when a hand grenade landed near his team, he jumped on it without thought or regret.

But instead of winding up dead, he wakes up butt-naked in a cave full of monsters with a knife in one hand and a pistol in the other. He's been chosen by Raguel, the Five-Faced God of Justice, and entrusted with the power of the Vigil Bound. Every kill makes him stronger, and thanks to the Ascendant System, Boyd can level up, unlock increasingly powerful spells, and even harness the abilities of the monsters he's been dispatched to hunt.

If he can survive the deadly shapeshifter stalking him from the shadows, Boyd's second life promises to be even more ass-kickingly epic than his first.

The main character fully embodies the jarhead mentality of Marines I’ve served with, and applies it to a gun LitRPG experience. The mystery in the story is a bit predictable but I appreciated how the character handled the situation and relied on his friends rather than try and be the Jack of all trades Rambo/Detective on his own. The ending is satisfying and fully resolved the issues in the story and then leaves room for the next adventure.

Military soldier killed in combat wistoff into a game world like an adventuring Angel his job is to kill monsters and collect bounties. The story is pretty awesome it's just got a lot of jokes to a ridiculous level. The writer does struggles with the fact that he decided to bring in guns. A lot of times bullets won't cut it but a mace will or sword it's a little weird. A truly solid start.

lots of jokes

this book had a lot of good references to Lord of the rings Harry Potter The Hobbit and others and it definitely reminded me of Witcher .I do not write bad reviews If the book sucks I don't finish it and I don't review it. this was a good book with a good story . so good book I do recommend and I am getting Ready to start next one .... the only complaint I had with this book which is probably just a listener preference is the info dumps . yes info is needed as background or to move the story forward. but I definitely had trouble sticking with the book at times when the story is not progressing because of a info lesson.

pretty good

The narration is just so dang spot on its hard to even think about disliking this book. Luke daniels has a great narrator voice and good range of voices and accents.

The plot was very well writing. The character development is also very well written. It's been a long time since I actually identified with the protagonist.

I do have some concerns about the magic system. Although I absolutely love the altar sanctum, which reminds me a little of a custom made place innskyrim! I worry that the ability to reset himself kinda hurts his progression in a way I struggle to clarify. I think mostly because he doesn't level up his skills. It would be cooler if he could learn a skill and once it met a certain level couldn't be reset.

So far so good
