Publisher's summary

2019 was the last great year for the world economy.

For generations, everything has been getting faster, better, and cheaper. Finally, we reached the point that almost anything you could ever want could be sent to your home within days - even hours - of when you decided you wanted it.

America made that happen, but now America has lost interest in keeping it going.

Globe-spanning supply chains are only possible with the protection of the U.S. Navy. The American dollar underpins internationalized energy and financial markets. Complex, innovative industries were created to satisfy American consumers. American security policy forced warring nations to lay down their arms. Billions of people have been fed and educated as the American-led trade system spread across the globe.

All of this was artificial. All this was temporary. All this is ending.

In The End of the World is Just the Beginning, author and geopolitical strategist Peter Zeihan maps out the next world: a world where countries or regions will have no choice but to make their own goods, grow their own food, secure their own energy, fight their own battles, and do it all with populations that are both shrinking and aging.

The list of countries that make it all work is smaller than you think. Which means everything about our interconnected world - from how we manufacture products, to how we grow food, to how we keep the lights on, to how we shuttle stuff about, to how we pay for it all - is about to change.

A world ending. A world beginning. Zeihan brings readers along for an illuminating (and a bit terrifying) ride packed with foresight, wit, and his trademark irreverence.

Provocative book, annoying narration

The content of the book provokes a lot of interesting thinking about trends across the globe. Unfortunately the author performs the narration and, like most such cases, tries way too hard and really distracts from the content in many places. This book read by a professional narrator would easily be a 5/5.

Just WOW!

The most enjoyable and entertaining truckload of horrifying news ... well... ever.
Reading Peter Diamandis optomism stuff at the same time as this pessimistic tour de force and somehow I think both are on the money in their own realms. What a roller coaster of information that will DEFINITELY be key in life decison making in my short and long term plans. A "standing applause" worthy work.

Great Stats

Author gives an amazing perspective on the supply chain infrastructure and from its origins to its current day existence. The geopolitical connections are often overlooked and he does s great job at connecting them. However disagree with his overall opinion of US withdrawal feom world affairs. Perhaps a regional shift but not an abandonment as he claims. Great book for insightful perspectives and statistical analysis.

Incredible!

I have been a big fan of Peter Zeihan ever since I read the eye opening, Accidental Superpower. This is his best work, a culmination of his life long learning and digging into our past, present and future! Thank you!

A non partisan book

This is an excellent book that highlights many issues that the world is going to face and was presented in a way that is non partisan. It is refreshing to read a book that provides so many wonderful points on so many topics with so much data to support the arguments being espoused. I would highly recommend this book to everyone.

Amazing, horrifying, and necessary.

The material is dire. The outlook is bleak. The performance is perfect. The author/performer gives you the worst outlook you’ve probably ever heard, without leaving you feeling helpless to make plans for getting through the coming paradigm shift.

a must read for any forward thinker

Peter Zeihan lays a wide and deep analysis of the world to come, as the globalization trend is reversing and countries focus on thier own supply chains Nd moving as much of them to be local. He highlights the different ways this may impact our lives, and breaks it down by industry, region and country.

Zeihan’s best book yet!

In the relatively boring field of geopolitical econo-demo-whatever-graphic analysis, Peter Zeihan knows his stuff AND knows how to make it interesting AND does a great job on the spoken word side of the audiobook game.

My brain cells get a little smarter every time I cross paths with Peter and his work, and this book was the best of his four. Here’s hoping for a fifth!

The Truth Hurts

Great book on the real world history and where we are headed. It's a Goldilocks of facts, not too much and not to little but just right.
