Publisher's summary

The pathfinder, Shea, has chosen to make a place for herself among her former captors, leaving behind her people and the life she once knew. However, not all welcome this outsider in their midst. Shea will find that surviving alone in the wilderness is child’s play next to navigating the politics that come with her new position. Especially when it becomes evident that there are those out for her blood.

As a new danger looms on the horizon, Shea and her warlord will need all the allies they can find. Because something is stirring in the barren lands from which all beasts are born. Something old and not seen since the last cataclysm.

Can Shea protect her people from this new threat or will it be the dangers from within her own inner circle that destroy her?

great book; terrible pronunciations

honestly, the narrator for the first book had some horrific pronunciations too (stead and steed are NOT PRONOUNCED THE SAME), but this one stood out because of the sheer number of times the word implacable was used and mispronounced every. dang. time. did no one listen to this before it was released???

the story and world are fascinating and the first two books have managed to be surprising, touching, action-filled, joyful, heartbreaking and erotic all at once. the heroine is imperfect in a relatable head-strong way, and it’s fascinating watching her and her warlord (a title used too much tbh) grow, change, argue, and move on. they learn from each other and both become better for it. love this series so far. can’t wait to listen to the next one!

Just as good as the first one.

Full of adventure and mayhem, just what I like. If you like fantasy and romance this is the perfect choice, this series does need to be read in order, for maximum enjoyment. I liked how we got to get to know the main characters better in this story and how they grow with the passage of time. More and more of the characters grow on you as you get to know them. I love the story so much that I barely even noticed there was a narrator change, both do a good job with the series.

Loved it!

I absolutely lived this book. It had the same quirky heroine as the first book, more exciting adventures, new monsters, and more assinstion attempts. I can't wait to listen to the third book in the series to find out what happens next.

politics, relationships and set up for book 3

book 1 was adventure, some politics abd building relationships.
book 2 is LOTS of relationships and politics. the adventure is mostly set up for the next book or politically driven.

I'm a fan

A Good story and I remain a fan of the MC's and many of the SC's. There is more development of Shea's magic and a set up of the next book in the series, but it is not really a cliff-hanger. There continues to be explicit sex and a few f-bombs. But I can spot the sex scenes coming & skim past them. The f-bombs are scattered & don't spoil the immersive zen too much.

The narrator does well with the voices - I don't get lost in the dialogue. But there are some miss-pronunciations and similar word substitutions. Not nearly enough to spoil the story.

I've read the story several times now. Amazon messed up on the whispersync - at least on my systems. But I can listen to the narration on Audible.

Engaging story

I stumbled onto TA White books and have found that this author writes a story that draws the reader in. The characters are well developed, the plot is well thought out.

Good transition book

This book starts off not immediately after the last ends. It’s clear that some things have happened: Shea is now Telroi not Tolroi and I feel like that transition was never fully explained, I even went to look and see if I missed a book before this one. Nope. Just suddenly Telroi without the transition and it’s not really clear how important the distinction is as “both positions hold honor”. Additionally it is clear that all is not well in paradise. Fallon and Shea have argued, Fallon took off on a months long journey and now Shea needs to learn the ropes. Instead of running all the time, she now needs to learn to stay out and adapt to this new society. It’s a transitional book with less action than the first but still plenty of world building and relationship development. I loved the tree top civilization and the expedition into the Mist, that and the introduction to Shea’s old Pathfinder life keeps this book as interesting as the first. It’s a bit of “what happens after the HEA” which is good because that builds the strength of the relationship. Loyalties are tested, as are skills. I enjoyed this book about as much as the first in spite of its sometimes slower pace. Excited to jump right into the next!
