Publisher's summary

On a clear, brisk night in September 2000, 33-year-old Della Brown was found sexually assaulted and beaten to death inside a filthy, abandoned shed in a seedy part of Anchorage, Alaska. She was one of six women, mostly Native Alaskan, slain that year, stoking fears a serial killer was on the loose. A tanned and thuggish 20-year-old would eventually implicate himself in three of the women's deaths and confess in detail to Della's murder.

Yet after a three-month trial, Joshua Wade would walk free. In 2007, when Wade kidnapped a well-loved nurse psychologist from her home and then executed her in the remote wilderness of Wasilla, two astute female detectives joined forces to finally bring him to justice.

Ice and Bone is the chilling true account of how a demented murderer initially evaded police and avoided conviction only to slip back into the shadows and kill again. Journalist and writer Monte Francis tells the harrowing story of what eventually led to Wade's capture and reveals why the true scope of his murderous rampage is only now, more than a decade later, coming into view.

Can you get away with murder??? Ummm, yea

Just as in some of the recent high profile crime cases, the culprit CAN literally get away with murder - depending on how good the lawyers and prosecutors are - despite the overwhelming circumstantial evidence and witnesses against the defendant. This is a prime example of "the best team wins"...not justice served.

Unfortunately, in one of these cases, it was a two card whammy...lesser experienced prosecutors AND the lack of hard physical evidence. An all too familiar scenario these days. This is the story of what can happen (and sadly, often does) in the aftermath of such a situation.

As usual, Kevin Pierce (narration) takes it right off the pages for me, making me FEEL that shock, anger, suspense and frustration....and has me behaving as if my ranting and raving is going to actually affect the outcome. Hahaaa. This was a VERY interesting story, and I enjoyed listening to every minute of it.

Good Listen & Great Narrator

I really enjoyed how well this book flowed. It wasn’t overly indulgent in gory details and gave both victims and their families the attention they deserved. I also liked revisiting jury members in latter part of the book. You rarely hear that and it helped humanize so much of the story. The narrator did an excellent job of making it all flow.

Excellent writing/Excellent narration

If you are a reader of true crime, you will appreciate this book. Well-paced, never boring, great character development. The narrator is excellent, especially when portraying the various seedy characters!

Riveting ... I couldn't stop listening!

What made the experience of listening to Ice and Bone the most enjoyable?

Kevin Pierce made the experience of listenting to Ice and Bone enjoyable. Most enjoyable was how thoroughly this book was researched and the fact that was provided. I felt as if I were there.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I did not have one favorite character as Kevin Pierce made me love them all, with the exception of Shane Wade, only because of his criminal acts.

Which character – as performed by Kevin Pierce – was your favorite?

As I stated above, Kevin Pierce did an exemplary job narrating this book and performing the characters. I could not pick just one because Kevin has the ability to draw you into each character and bring them to life for you.

If you could give Ice and Bone a new subtitle, what would it be?

I would not give Ice and Bone a new subtitle as the one already given clearly states what the book is about.

Any additional comments?

Ice and Bone

“This audiobook was given by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review via Audiobook Boom.”

True crimes revisited. Sad tales of serial killer in Alaska. A good listen for true crime buffs, even though some vulgar language.

The narration was well done.

Nice, solid true crime book

At first, I wasn't able to get into this book. But I kept at it and I'm glad I did. The author does an excellent job conveying the impact the murders of Della Brown and Mindy Schloss had on Anchorage and the victim's families. I Would have liked more about how the Brown murder impacted the Native community specifically. But overall, this is a well written, well researched true crime book.
