Jim Dale's Grammy Award-winning performance of J.K. Rowling's iconic stories is a listening adventure for the whole family.
Turning the envelope over, his hand trembling, Harry saw a purple wax seal bearing a coat of arms; a lion, an eagle, a badger and a snake surrounding a large letter 'H'.
Close your eyes and enter the magical world of Harry Potter. In these editions, Jim Dale's characterful narration is so entertaining, fun, and theatrical you can almost hear the crackle of the fire in the Gryffindor common room.
Harry Potter has never even heard of Hogwarts when the letters start dropping on the doormat at number four, Privet Drive. Addressed in green ink on yellowish parchment with a purple seal, they are swiftly confiscated by his grisly aunt and uncle. Then, on Harry's eleventh birthday, a great beetle-eyed giant of a man called Rubeus Hagrid bursts in with some astonishing news: Harry Potter is a wizard, and he has a place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. An incredible adventure is about to begin!
Having become classics of our time, the Harry Potter stories never fail to bring comfort and escapism. With their message of hope, belonging and the enduring power of truth and love, the story of the Boy Who Lived continues to delight generations of new listeners.

A few notes of what I love about Sorcerer's Stone.
I immediately identified with each of the characters.
The mystery is as clever and ingenious as the best mysteries in literature.
The magic is seemless with reality. It seems perfectly normal.
The contrast of the wizard world and human,(muggle) world is remarkable in its uniqueness and the reactions of the characters when the two worlds meet is priceless.
Its real magic... Just sayin.

What made the experience of listening to Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, Book 1 the most enjoyable?
I was eleven when this book first debuted, and I was fortunate to 'grow up' alongside Harry in real time as the books were released. Many years later, I was driving on an extended road trip and thought, "What the heck? Why I don't listen to the Harry Potter books? I bet they'll seem silly or stupid now that I'm older." Well, that wasn't the case. Immediately, I was sucked back into Rowling's delightful world. Some parts I was surprised to find I remembered almost verbatim; other times, I was shocked at how many charming details I had forgotten but excitedly rediscovered. Is this book 'high literature'? Are the themes it presents unique and unusual? Frankly, no. I don't think Rowling has a major morality axe to grind, nor do I feel this is her strength. The world of Harry Potter is intriguing - and endearing - because it is parallel to our own, yet so magical at the same time. I finished this book in record time. My current reading list of classics and 'high literature' is being shelved for the next few weeks whilst I conjure myself back into Rowling's captivating world.Who was your favorite character and why?
Dumbledore is always delightful. He reminds me of the archetypical grandfather figure. What does Jim Dale bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Jim Dale takes Rowling's wonderful story and gives it an entirely new dimension. I read the books when they were first published - at least twice - and thought I knew the story pretty well. Jim Dale does a marvelous job of giving each character a unique voice, and his pacing is perfect. I'm sure most folks have seen the movies, but I thought he was wise to choose unique accents for the characters which differed from their movie counterparts (aside from Hagrid). I purchased the first audiobook thinking it would kill a day of driving in the car. Well, I'm clearing my schedule as much as possible over the next few weeks, so I can devote as much time as possible to Jim Dale's other HP narrations.Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
No, nothing extreme. Although I don't think the themes explored in this book are at all unique, Rowling doesn't go for cheap thrills or sentimentality. The magic of this book, pun intended, lays largely in its after-effects. I'm nearly 30 years old now, an entirely different person from the 11 year old who first fell in love with this book. I read a LOT of books but was surprised to find myself thinking about this book, its world and its characters long after the final page was finished.Magic for Muggles
