Publisher's summary
In this riveting audio, an award-winning Canadian author delves into the gritty, gruesome details of the most notorious spree killers, school shooters, and serial killers the world has ever seen. (Hear how Edmund Kemper decapitated his mother's head, used it as a dartboard, and then cut out her voice box and placed it in the garbage disposal.)
"Cold Blooded Killers is a blood-curdling collection of some of the most famous and the least known multiple-murder cases. I primarily bought this book as a source file for my own writing as I find the information to be well-informed and easy to read. The very human stories in this massive collection are filled with the tragedies of the victims' encounters with the abnormal criminals who most of us thankfully avoid in our day-to-day lives. Some very eclectic selections and some well-known cases are presented to us by a writer who is always striving to advance in his True Crime expositions. The thing I like most about this author's true-crime writing is that the victims are never forgotten and the murderers are not sensationalized but portrayed for what they really are, sociopathic cold-blooded killers." (William Cook)
They will feel that their own lives are over, and aim to take as many people with them as they can. Once their killing spree is over, they most often either commit suicide, or force the police to use deadly force against them, in other words, suicide by cop.
Cold Blooded Killers is a set case files, ranging from kids who killed their parent(s), to rampage spree killers, school shootings, and serial killers. This is the author's second collection.

Story
During the Depression, economic anxieties found an outlet in a series of child murders that triggered an irrational nationwide hysteria: pedophiliac psychopaths were overrunning the country. As America was brought to rage and fury by the press and the FBI, lynch mobs took to the streets, reason gave way to doomsday scenarios, and one father was even driven to murder his three daughters to “save them” from a degenerate crime wave. A terrifying cautionary essay, Panic explores the combustible mix of unfounded fears, moral crusades, and the dangers of collective thinking.

Story
It’s a chilling reality that homicide investigators know all too well: The last face most murder victims see is not that of a stranger, but of someone familiar. Whether only an acquaintance or a trusted intimate, such killers share a common trait that triggers the downward spiral toward death for someone close to them: They are masters at hiding who they really are. Their clever masks let them appear safe, kind, and truthful. They are anything but - and almost no one can detect the murderous impulses buried deep in their psyches.

Story
There is little more terrifying than those who hunt, stalk, and snatch their prey under the cloak of darkness. These hunters search not for animals, but for the touch, taste, and empowerment of human flesh. They are cannibals, vampires, and monsters, and they walk among us. These serial killers are not mythical beasts with horns and shaggy hair. They are people living among society, going about their day-to-day activities until nightfall. They are the Dennis Rader's, the fathers, husbands, church-going members of the community.

In this fascinating, in-depth account of the hunt for serial killers, Colin Wilson, one of the world's leading authorities on the subject, examines the ways they can be tracked down and caught, from the tried-and-true methods of the early 20th century to the high-tech processes in use today. Wilson examines such areas as psychological profiling, genetic fingerprinting, and the launch of the Behavioral Science Unit. He delves into the importance of fantasy to serial killers, the urge to keep on killing, the desire to become notorious, and murder as an addictive drug.

Joe Barboza knew that there were two requirements for getting inducted into the Mafia. You had to be Sicilian. And you had to commit a contract killing. The New Bedford-born mobster was a proud Portuguese, not Sicilian, but his dream to be part of La Cosa Nostra proved so strong that he thought he could create a loophole. Barboza’s legacy, buried for years thanks to the murders or deaths of its participants, is finally coming to light and being told in its unvarnished brutality by one of America’s most respected true crime writers.

Story
From the best-selling author of Public Enemies and The Big Rich, an explosive account of the decade-long battle between the FBI and the homegrown revolutionary movements of the 1970s. The FBI combated these groups and others as nodes in a single revolutionary underground, dedicated to the violent overthrow of the American government. The FBI’s response to the leftist revolutionary counterculture has not been treated kindly by history, and in hindsight many of its efforts seem almost comically ineffectual, if not criminal in themselves.

Slightly monotonic but not a bad listen.
The telling of the story themselves were slightly monotonic and dragged on a little bit reminding me of the professor from Ferris Buellers Day Off and I did have to come back to them at some point because I started losing a lot of interest in the writings. Some of the killers that were talked about are more of the well known ones like the columbine massacre, Jeffrey Dahmer, Ted Bundy They were killers that we had grown up with hearing about because they were some of the more famously known as it is and then you hear about ones that are little bit more recent like the sandy hook school shootings. It's a nice listening to have playing in the background while you're doing other tasks.
