Publisher's summary

Davy has always been alone. He believes that he's the only person in the world who can teleport. But what if he isn't?

A mysterious group of people has taken Davy captive. They don't want to hire him, and they don't have any hope of appealing to him to help them. What they want is to own him. They want to use his abilities for their own purposes, whether Davy agrees to it or not. And so they set about brainwashing him and conditioning him. They have even found a way to keep a teleport captive.

But there's one thing that they don't know. No one knows it, not even Davy. And it might save his life....

Critic reviews

"Though Gould continues to exuberantly press the boundaries of scientific credibility, his gift for placing ordinary people in extraordinary situations against a backdrop of international concerns makes this fast-paced adventure sizzle." ( Publishers Weekly)
"This is a fun, fast-paced novel that - like Gould's other books - also has a social conscience that gives it more depth than such a story might have in lesser hands." (Charles de Lint, The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction)

Very Entertaining!

The fantasy merged with reality, science and politics is very entertaining. A couple of questions still linger which is a perfect primer for the sequel. I can't wait!

Now you see me...

Where does Reflex rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Near the top. I'm a big fan of super powers, magic in the modern world, advanced tech in the modern world, and things of that nature. This is along those lines. It's similar to the movie, but far different enough to be better, as original books usually are.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Davy, because he's the main character and he is figuring out new things about his power. That's why we listened to it after all.

What about MacLeod Andrews’s performance did you like?

The realism which he brings to the characters. The different voices and accents truly make the story better.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I wasn't moved, but Davy moved some things. hahahaha.

Any additional comments?

2nd book in the series and though it is different from the first, it is still good. A little slow but still entertaining. I am also not a big fan of torture and brainwashing, even though I know it is fiction (but how cool would it be if there were people who could do things like this), it still bothers me when good people are being tortured or kids are getting hurt. Davy is out to do what is right.

Couldn't put it down

I enjoyed the book emmencely from start to finish and I was happy when Milli found out she was just like David. Even the narrator made this a great read. I'm on my third Jumper audiobook and they are are great. I believe this could be the beginning of great reads. Thanks to the authors, Steven Gould and MacLeod Andrew's I'll be reading more of these types of books.

great story, held my interest

This was a very enjoyable listen. I was always held the story and what would unfold next. Characters and scenes well developed, and very easy to create the story's images in my mind. I always looked forward to starting the story up where I left off last. The narrator did a fantastic job. Overall, it was a great listen!

Great contribution to the series.

As with all of the books in the main Jumper series I have read this one multiple times and listened to it at least three yet hadn't written a review yet. This installment by has the most action out of the books by far. The book takes a larger look at the implications and possibilities of jumping and tackles topics like imprisonment, reconditioning, and physical and psychological torture. It introduces some interesting secondary characters some of which return in later books and become a staple in the series. The narrator does a fantastic job portraying the characters. Overall it's a great contribution to one of my favorite series.

Gripping from the first page

Loved this book couldn't have been happier with the plot and pace.

Are the ethnic accents appropriate in audio books? This was my first one.

Great sequel!

Loved the 2nd book too :-)
Surprised how different a story it is compared to the movie.
But listening was gripping, and a "page turner"
(Ok, I said it !!!)
Let's start #3 :-)

Great story. Only issue is the timeline.

I loved this story. It is a fantastic continuation of the original book, Jumper. I have purchased all four copies and I hope there will be more. My only quibble is one that I have had with several authors who write multiple books over short or long periods of time. The glaring inconsistency in the timeline. Some variation in specific years are to be expected when written over a period of years, and dates can be adjusted to reflect the current era in which the story takes place. However, when referring to characters age, that should remain consistent. For example, the beginning of this book, Reflex, establishes that ten years have passed since the end of book 1, Jumper, making Davy's age, 28 years old, and Millie's age, 31 years old, as she is three years older than he. Later in the book Millie comments that she is 33 years old, soon to be 34. This age gap is an obvious error. Other than that, great book! I look forward to more of them.
