In the late summer of a long-ago year, Alton Turner Blackwood brutally murdered four families. His savage spree ended only when he himself was killed by the last survivor of the last family, a fourteen-year-old boy.

Half a continent away and two decades later, someone is murdering families again, re-creating in detail Blackwood’s crimes. Homicide detective John Calvino is certain that his own family - his wife and three children - will be targets, just as his parents and sisters were victims on that distant night when he was fourteen and killed their slayer.

As a detective, John is a man of reason who deals in cold facts. But an extraordinary experience convinces him that sometimes death is not a one-way journey, that sometimes the dead return.

At times it was running on and on, especially when the oldest daughter was in her fantasy world, could have done with a little less of that, but other than that, it was very good demon story. Wouldn't really call it a ghost story, to me it was a demon. Haven't read a Dean Koontz story in a while so this was a good story to come back to.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves Koontz type mystery thrillers. No tells a mystery like Koontz. The revelation deep dark secrets and the overwhelming need to make things right make this book a must listen. The final sacrifice is a WOW!

What other book might you compare What the Night Knows to and why?

False Memory - because the mind is a terrible thing to waste. Because the mind can be shaped and molded. But mostly because only the mind really knows these things could happen in real life - given the opportunity.

Which scene was your favorite?

My favorite scene was when after being possessed by Blackwood, the guy goes to visit his sister and her family. She does not know Blackwood is on board but she knows her brother is an abusive, violent man. Without question she shoots him after seeing him attack her husband. The pace of the book from this point forward picks up and takes on new heights of SUPER NATURAL!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Absolutely.

Don't know how I had missed this one. As always I couldn't stop listening. Suspenseful and I was afraid to hear the end. What an imagination.

Koontz still has it!

I have always been a huge fan of Dream Koontz, so it is no surprise to me that this was a great book! This was my first time listening to one instead of reading it and I must say the narrator dogs a top notch job. I was enthralled the whole time! Bravo!
