Enter the world of the Pendleton: The original owner became a recluse - and was rumored to be more than half mad - after his wife and two children were kidnapped in 1896 and never found. The second owner suffered a worse tragedy in 1935, when his house manager murdered him, his family, and the entire live-in staff....
Craftsmen and laborers working on renovations disappear or go mad....
For years, the Pendleton is a happy place, until a bad turn comes again....
Voices in unknown languages are heard in deserted rooms, everywhere and nowhere....
Disturbing shadows move along walls but have no source....
Images on security monitors show strange places that exist nowhere in the building or its grounds....
A young boy talks of an imaginary playmate - who turns out to be terrifyingly real....
A figure like a man but clearly inhuman is glimpsed in the courtyard gardens at night and in other locales, perhaps a hoaxer of some kind, seemingly oblivious of those who see it - until it suddenly takes an interest in one of them....

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
This was good, but it jumped around so much that I would find my mind drifting off somewhere else and would have to rewind the ipod. Once you got to the end of the story then you actually understood what was happening, at first I thought it was an old ancient evil, and then to find out it was scientists and computers that got wacked in the end. But no matter, I'm a die hard Koontz fan.To many places at once

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
A better story line without all the running around doing nothing but stupid things. What was most disappointing about Dean Koontz’s story?
It was like a bad gumbo soup. A lot of stuff thrown in the pot with too many fillers and not enough meat and none of the right seasonings. I kept thinking maybe he took all the stories he wrote or tried to write a long time ago but never published and put them all in one book and came up with this garbage. I mean it started out okay, but then got redundant and boring. Save your credit or money and skip this or get it from the library.Would you listen to another book narrated by Peter Berkrot?
MaybeIf you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from 77 Shadow Street?

Not Koontz's Best By Far, And Still Worth A Credit

However the performance of Mr. Berkrot is absolutely impressive. His old sisters are truly a joy to listen to and he makes the voice of the antagonist extraordinarily creepy. A great job all around.
As a rule I don’t rehash the plot lines and I won’t do so here. It irritates the heck out of me when reviewers use a thousand words to tell you what you already know from reading the description and things you don’t need to know about the book you want to read. It’s like having your book club tell you all about the book you just started.
With that out of my system I’ll just say that the storyline, plot and characters are very well written and the devices used to ratchet up suspense and tension are quite believable in their execution. There’r no overt sexual scenes to speak of and foul language is kept to a bare minimum and mild when it appears.
A very good listen that will keep you on the edge of your seat and keep you thinking long after Ted’s final cordial farewell.
Certainly credit worthy.
What a blast! (Audible book review)

If you could sum up 77 Shadow Street in three words, what would they be?
what the heck?Would you be willing to try another book from Dean Koontz? Why or why not?
yes. i have enjoyed his books in the past, particularly the frankenstein series.Which scene was your favorite?
the scenes which depicted people conversing OUTside the building. i found the goings on INside the building too confusing! Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
not really.Any additional comments?
i have read books in this genre before and i have to say i am not really impressed. i prefer an author to be more plain spoken and not use symbolism and smoke and mirrors to illustrate their point.at the very end, the announcer says
what is really going on?
