Publisher's summary

After the Civil War, Americans moved west. Colorado was where the great plains met the Rocky Mountains. Denver was a boom town because the railroad brought men and women from the east. Jake Rawlins moved to Colorado after the war. He wanted to find peace and forget about the carnage that he experienced. He had enough of cities and city people. He wanted the solitude of the mountains. Jake had befriended Soaring Eagle and his tribe, but he still needed to be alone and learn the way of the mountains. After the war, slaves were freed in the southern states, but they were still not free. Vagrancy laws provided free prison labor for the planters. Moses Gunn decided to steal his master's wagon and run. He took Amelia with him. After hiding among the outer banks, he and Amelia made their way west seeking freedom. Jake and Moses threw in together when renegades kidnapped Amelia. Aided by Iron Knife from Soaring Eagle's tribe, the three rescuers rode toward a final showdown.
Rich with description of life in the Rockies, fighting bears, blizzards, and angry ex-confederates, Jake, Moses, and Iron Knife take you back to a time when actions speak louder than words and hesitation is death. This is the second installment of Jake Rawlins, Mountain Man, a former Union soldier who only wants peace but can't seem to find it.
