I don't understand all the positive reviews

I have never returned an Audible book before but this one was the first one.
So many reviews mention how awesome and helpful the book is but nobody gives specific examples about what is so awesome, which makes me think some of the reviews are not genuine (upon checking, many reviewers got the book for free, which explains a lot).
The reader has a deep robotic voice. It's not pleasant to hear, especially for stretches of time on the road, such as your morning commute. The introduction seems good and the points covered make sense: where other books tell you to *act* more confident, the author insists that you will need more than that and promises to address these issues in the chapters.
One interesting point was the definition of "active party" and "passive party" -- you, the people-pleaser, being the passive party. I liked how the author explained that being the passive party is not forever and you can choose to change your role. I also liked the idea that the active party is not the bad guy.
But after that, the chapters get a bit boring and it takes a while for the author to bring any real advice. Some things are logical. For example, there is a whole chapter about boundaries and how boundaries are different for each person. Yes, that's a good point, but it could also be summarized in a blog post. I skipped to the chapter about being able to say a firm "no" and that's when I gave up. I don't think I learned anything. Some of the examples are often focused on your boss/coworker asking you to work more. But what about your friends asking stuff from you? Or your family members? There is something to be said about saying no to loved ones vs. strangers.
Anyways, maybe that the way the book is read did not help, but this book did not teach me much.

Good advice

Some of it I knew but there are also some great new tips. I needed the reminder on the things I knew. I like that he gives practical statements you can use in life, both personal and career. Voice easy to listen to.

Well written, comprehensive, great narration

The book was written in a simple, clear, comprehensive format, discussing different situations & relationships. It felt as if the author is talking to you and is present. The narrator was great! I will be introducing this book to others & I recommend parents & schools use it to teach school aged children so they can practice these life skills early in life.

A helpful place to start

I found this to be book well-structured, containing some helpful exercises and and tips. It appeared to be tailored to those at the very beginning of their journey to assertiveness, as it covers a lot of basics such as assessing your self-esteem and the importance of boundaries.

Very helpful book - life changing for me.

As someone who is and has always been the epitome of a people pleaser, I identified with everything the author wrote. I'm going to re-read this often and try to recall these techniques whenever I'm put in these scenarios.
The narrator is excellent too. He has a very soothing and caring voice which made me feel like he was my personal coach (or shrink lol).
