Publisher's summary

What is revealed when you authentically connect with the people around you?

In Ask Powerful Questions, Will Wise explains how the questions we traditionally ask are virtually meaningless when it comes to establishing connection. Introducing a set of practical tools for accessing and understanding others by changing the way we ask questions, Will shows how to transform "How are you? I'm fine, thanks" into a conversation that changes not only how you lead, but who you are as a person.

It took years of research, university teaching, and hundreds of client projects for Will to formulate his concept behind the art of asking powerful questions. In his audiobook, Will breaks it down into six simple steps and a framework.

The "Asking Powerful Questions Pyramid" shows you how to build:

  • Intention
  • Rapport
  • Openness
  • Listening
  • Empathy

Business professionals, personal coaches, teachers, and anyone in a position of leadership will relate to the personal successes and failures Will shares as he unpacks the art of asking questions that elicit unconventional answers.

Powerful questions can be used everywhere: from the board room to the city park, the dinner table to the grocery store. If you want to connect with employees at a team-building retreat, hone your leadership skills as a new boss, or improve the company culture where you work...this audiobook is for you. If you want to navigate difficult conversations with your spouse or a friend or practice presence-based listening with your kids...this audiobook is for you. If you want to become a better educator and facilitate an ice-breaker conversation with colleagues...this audiobook is for you.

Ask Powerful Questions invites the listener on a journey that explores the clarity of intent, connecting through rapport, creating openness, reflective listening, and empathy.

How can we explore the space between ourselves and others and exchange meaningful perspectives? Just ask - powerfully.

Great Insight!

This book helps build a great foundation for people who are looking to be better listeners and better communicators in conversation. While the book directly isn't laying a foundation for communication, it speaks to effective ways to ask questions to understand others by asking questions that do not convey judgement or convey negative thoughts towards what the other person is expressing. This book has really helped give me perspective on how to ask meaningful questions to my friends and students that I see everyday to help me understand them or help work through tough situations that do not require my opinion but just a listening ear.

Content is insightful and triggering BUT .....

As I have said above with a BUT , the audobook feels like having the cast of Kung Fu Panda ( Grand Master Oogway aka Will , Master Shifu aka Dan, Po aka Chad ). First and foremost the Chapter reference does not sync up with audiobook, its completely wrong. The audio quality could be improved as Chad sound as if he is a tunnel. On the speakers Will really really speaks a a verrryyyy slow pace even at 1.25x he is still sloooowwwww. Then there's Dan and Chad a normal pace and the chimes and bells, I was like really seriously whose idea was it ? A accompanying PDF with the relevant diagrams/tables would have been a great plus for the audiobook as well. Having said all of the above , the book has valueable practical nuggest of knowledge and trully unrealizingly a mindset shift occurs by the time your done listening. Thank you and Kudos to Will and Chad !

Ask Powerful Questions, asks a lot of yourself.

Good Listen with a lot of interesting ideas and concepts to follow.

First real full length book on Audible and really enjoyed the format, though difficult when talking through diagrams etc.

I think audible will be my new focus going forward as I am able to listen and note take quicker.

Looking forward to working on what I learnt and hopefully seeing some good results for subsequent conversations.

Well worth the time spent.

big bites or little bites, read more than once

I really like that you can listen to this book in small chunks and try a technique, then come back to the book for the next piece. I really like the pyramid explanation and just the content was so dense, you pick up new things on the subsequent reading. A+

Remember, Connection Before Content?

“Connection before content” is one of the many powerful messages in this book. The Content of this book is valuable. Where it can do better is the narration. It’s painful to listen to the various speaking styles of the three narrators, and this erodes the opportunity to easily Connect with the material.
