Thought provoking book

This book was suggested to me in a real estate seminar. Asking good questions is a fundamental aspect of the real estate coaching I receive. I will definitely employ these questions and the strategies behind them to further develop my business. The delivery is a bit awkward, but well worth bearing through to mine the nuggets of the book.

Powerful questions, stories, and examples

Bite sized chapters that pack a big punch. The chapters have a story the shows how the questions can be applied and are between 5-10 min long.
Overall pretty insightful as well. They mention why some business deals or first impressions go sour when one side may have thought it went well.

Really enjoyed listening to this book. These power questions really do open your mind to a new way of thinking and unlock a depth of dialogue that was previously untapped.

A medium amount of information, but fun stories.

To start, I have decided to start going through as many books based around skills I find essential as possible. As communication is a very large one, I have decided to start here. I was drawn to this book from reviews as well as the promise of the descriptions. The concepts insinuated to be inside have a very powerful allure to someone looking to truly hone their social skills. Taking all of this in to account, I'll be judging it specifically from this perspective.

Content: 3/5
There is not enough actual information. Too much fluff for the sake of fluff.

The questions and information that is being taught within this book are mostly simple in nature. That isn't to deter from any of their actual purposes, as I find nearly every question within the book to have a very precise and powerful use. Many of the questions had me pausing the recording to contemplate my own answer. I certainly believe that with these questions on standby that you will certainly find any conversation you have to be much more enriching,

The problem lies in the density of the data. The book is actually set up in a story format which came as a shock to me. The authors give anecdotal stories about their own personal utilizations of the questions to emphasize the "power" of them. The stories are very much personal accounts written from memory, which for me certainly means they must be taken with at least a grain of salt. While I'm sure most of the events written about happened, it is difficult to have full faith in every detail. Regardless of the truth behind each story though, each is quite impactful. Despite this, the book is still not very long. Not to mention, this limits the chapters to having one to two questions at most. I was hoping for a much higher density of information to absorb.

Generally though the knowledge was solid, and at the very least the stories made for interesting use cases for what they are trying to teach you. The authors make it very clear as well that many of these questions were evoked in a business environment but are also incredibly useful for reflective purposes. As mentioned earlier, many times I found myself paused, pondering. If I were asked many of the questions I would be dumbstruck for a moment.

Presentation: 4/5
Fun stories with very important take-aways and fun writing.

The vocabulary used, and the usage of tone throughout the stories made them a joy to hear. Most of the stories were fun recounts of exciting memories, or stressful resolutions to difficult scenarios. Being heard, it really feels like the author is sitting on a call with you spewing about all these tales. They feel natural, and require minimal suspension of disbelief. Though this wasn't my intention for this book, hearing the way these questions have made actual impacts on lives makes the entire book feel more concrete.

Performance: 3/5
Extremely slow cadence makes for a grating listen on regular speed.

I'll say that my takes for performance will generally be skewed. Most of my reading is based obtaining knowledge. Due to this, I always listen sped up since the less time spent, the more time I can be doing something else. For this particular book, the 1x speed is intolerable. The rate of speech drives me insane, and it feels like every word is drawn out for way more than it should be. Both speakers suffer from this. Despite this though, their overall tone was pleasant to listen to. It really did feel like the words were coming from their hearts most of the time.

Conversely to the 1x speed though, 1.5x was absolutely perfect. Both of them are speaking at the perfect speed to sound normal at 1.5x speed. This makes for a much more pleasant experience, and I would personally recommend it as the baseline experience this time.

Overall: 3/5
Very fun book. and I feel as if I did actually learn some things. I'd recommend it for anyone looking to seriously get better at speaking.

Who allowed this one guy to voiceover

I heard such amazing things about this book. My biggest regret is purchasing the audio. This guy makes everything sound so damn boring and makes me hate listening to this book. Now I have to purchase the physical book because I can’t focus on how good the book is. Because this one guy makes me want to kill myself. I can’t even give an accurate star review because of this guy. Save yourself from him. Buy the physical copy.

great information horrible narration

the information is great make sure you keep a pen or pencil and a notebook with you as you listen to it because you're going to want to write some of these questions down however the older sound and gentlemen who is narrating will put you straight to sleep reminds me of the Clear Eyes Guy on the commercials. but he has some great information good book horrible performance.

By far the worst narration I have heard yet

I had to return this book. I'm not sure if I would agree with this book even with a different narrator. "No Gorilla dust here" and "I see problems like ice-cream you've got to keep licking them"....

Average

I was really looking forward to this but it was a disappointment. The story about the CFO who stole money and kept his job b/c he had a long-standing friendship with CEO wreaked of privilege disguised as empathy and compassion.

Non-distinct, Ordinary, Poor in substance

This title has no substantial useful purpose. It's a repetition of an elderly man's thoughts recited in a diary format. It really is unsubstantial and poor to accept as a part of your time.
