Hilarious and Hot

This audio was laugh out loud funny. The story of a young, very smart, attractive woman forced into a situation with an Alpha mobster due to her own actions. The internal ramblings of her mind quite often had me laughing out loud. I did find that if I was interrupted at all I would have to go back in the Audio because I wasn’t sure if she was speaking to herself or if she was in a two sided conversation. Asher Black was dark and brooding but he also was protective, intuitive, and sexy as sin. The narrator has a very distinct cadence to her voice which was distracting for me and did little to help the story. If you’re looking for a quick witted listen, this audio is for you.

Narration is horrible

I was looking forward to this book; however, the narration completely ruined it. The main character's narrator hurries through every sentence and has a slight lisp. I just can't listen to it. I think if she slowed down and read the story with emotion and not as though she is ready for her lunch hour it would be a compelling audible. I may just go and read the book and try to forget I ever heard try to give it a listen.

A Hilarious and Unconventional Romance!

Asher Black is not my typical read/listen. I actually don't think that I have ever read a mafia book/romance. I'm so happy that I took the chance though to discover this new to me author!

This was a really entertaining audiobook and the heroine had me laughing throughout most of the book. Lucy's inner monologue and her back and forth banter with Asher was fantastic. Throw in the whole fake fiance trope and this was an awesome debut novel. Even though there are some heavier and more serious moments in the book, Lucy and Asher's interactions and chemistry kept it more lighthearted and playful. Readers/listeners may find a few parts of the story a little over the top, but for me it just made it more fun. This is my first time listening to the narrator, Lacy Laurel. I thought that she did a great job as Lucy and I felt her performance was perfect for the character.

I didn't find the book to be super mafia heavy and though the overall pacing was fine, I felt like the end was a little rushed. I would have loved to have Asher's POV, but overall, this was a really enjoyable book and I look forward to reading/listening to more by this author.

Hard Listen

I absolutely loved this story. It was recommended by a friend who was READING the book. This narrator was so hard to listen to. The cadence and inflection of her voice was completely off. Several mispronounced words. If not for the great writing of this author and the very interesting story, I would have given up. Serious debate about going on to the next book, but Parker is an excellent writer. Maybe going "old school" and actually turn a written page. Sad, I usually love listening.

maybe if there was a different reader. Lucy sounds immature. i remembered trying to listen to this before and only got to chaotr 12 and demanded my credit back. i recently listened to my dark romeo , it was awesome, and i thought i would try this again.... its still not worth the credit.

Amazing!

Parker S Huntington has written and amazing story and the narration by Lacy Lauren just made it that much better! This is not your typical mafia romance book. It has some tension and angst in the beginning but with a few times that you will giggle yourself silly. You can see the way this relationship grows from beginning to end with no parts skipped. I love the way it started, the way it continued and the way it ended. There is no part in this book that is not loved and you will not regret getting this audiobook to listen to. I myself can’t wait for the next!

I need more!

This book was awesome! It had me hooked from the beginning. I could not put it down. The story was so well written. I fell in love with the characters and became so invested. The chemistry between Lucy and Asher was crazy. I was yelling at them in my head so often. Lucy is perfect for Asher- they just need to get their S together. I can not wait for the next installment!

Narration and production is flawless. I have had the pleasure of listening to several of Lacy's narrations and have loved them all. She always gives a great performance!

Highly recommend!

meh ..

I had to make myself keep listening a couple times mostly just because of the narrator... I mean I've heard worse but not by much. i was really impressed with Huntington's "devious lies" but this barely hold a candle to that one.. but it may have been the narrator.. I'll get the next one with different narrators and see.
