Publisher's summary

Snowflake CEO Frank Slootman is one of the tech world's most accomplished executives in enterprise growth, having led Snowflake to the largest software IPO ever after leading Data Domain and ServiceNow to exponential growth and the public market before that. In Amp It Up, he shares his leadership approach for the first time.

Amp It Up delivers an authoritative look at what it takes to transform an organization for maximum growth and scale. Slootman shows that most leaders have significant room to improve their organization's performance without making expensive changes to their talent, structure, or fundamental business model - and they don't need to bring in an army of consultants to do it. What they do need is to align people around what matters and execute with urgency and intensity every day.

Leading for unprecedented growth means declaring war on mediocrity, breaking the status quo, and making conflicted choices daily, all with a relentless focus on the mission. Amp It Up provides the first principles to guide that change, and the tactical advice for organizing a company around them. Perfect for executives, entrepreneurs, founders, managers, and leaders of all kinds, Amp It Up is a must-have resource for anyone who seeks to unleash the growth potential of a company and scale it to heights they never thought possible.

Must read

I’m a first time CEO and this book hit on everything I needed to hear. I suggest buying the hard copy too because you’re going to want to take your highlighter out and make notes in the margin.
This will be an annual read for me.

Same old book

This book has been written 100's of times before. Move fast, get rid of bad hires, pay attention to the customer. Oh yeah, "without me as the CEO the world would fail."

Ruthlessly run a business

I agree with the principles presented in this book although they may seem somewhat harsh to some young listeners. It’s a good listen but not so much about how to inspire people with leadership.

Great for people who operate companies

The best book I’ve read on business execution.

For the casual reader, I’d recommend a more narrative driven business book like The Hard Thing About Hard Things.

Amp It Up is smarter and more tactical. It stays short as it assumes a lot on the reader’s end. The reader may not fully understand what Slootman is talking about unless they themselves are a C-level executive (sans CSO) running a company.

Thank you for writing this book!! I took over a month to read this short book, taking notes on many of the insights and seeing if they’d apply to my org. A legendary operator recommended this to me. I’ve since recommended it to a number of operators who loved it.

Every executive should digest this book.

This book is excellent, and every leadership team will benefit from the wisdom offered within. I’ll be re-reading this carefully.

Waste of time

The author spends more time blowing smoke up their a** about how successful his companies were than giving the reader any value.

Poor value

Lots of self boasting, not much true value added. Trivia. Basically you can summarize it "try hard, have your own opinion, business is war"

Title - Book recommendation

"Amp It Up" presents a detailed exploration of past successes, showcasing moments of genuine insight and innovation. However, these instances of brilliance are interspersed sparsely throughout the text, leading to a narrative that occasionally feels protracted. While the book offers valuable lessons, its core messages could have been conveyed more succinctly, potentially fitting the brevity of an email.

Unhelpful

I was hoping to learn from this book. Unfortunately it's mostly generic and abstract advice, plus a lot of self aggrandizement. Stopped reading a few chapters in.
