About the Relationship Between Children and Parents

Osho always expresses unusual insights to education and the upbringing of children. In this talk, responding a question, he explores the relationship between children and parents. He says, meditation and consciousness give opportunities to change the direction of these relationships and therefore the whole of humanity. Parents respecting their children, rather than seeing them as property, is a key point: "You have chosen us as your parents," will be responded to with deeper respect, more gratitude, more love. When you love a child you would not like him / her to be just a carbon copy of yourself, you would like them to be a unique individual.

Osho defines how the child's soul came to inhabit the body and what causes conflict between children and parents.

This one had a slow start but in true Osho fashion when he comes around to the point it simply clicks. This conversation about children inevitably leads to a discussion about sex. Specifically the state of mind of the mother and father during the child's conception. He goes on to point out that modern people raise their children by having the father be authoritative and not allowing the child to experience and make its own choices. He mentions that this is part of what creates the generation gap and that if you have an issue with your child to realize that the soul that took on that body was directly related to the mother and fathers state of mind during conception. Essentially taking responsibility for the creation of your children and allowing them to become, not forcing them to be exactly like you, a perfect replica which is not what nature intended.
