A Duty . . .

Bound in service to the king within the city, Faythe grapples with morality to keep herself and her friends safe. Nik's loyalty is tested as he struggles against his father's cruel ways. When blood and duty divide the heart, can love conquer all?

An Alliance . . .

While the kingdoms prepare to unite, Faythe is forced to remain hidden in plain sight. But suspicions quickly arise with the mysterious fae general from an ally court. Getting close to Reylan could unravel truths she longed for, but trust is hard to gain and even harder to hold. When lurking evil threatens the alliance that keeps them all safe, Faythe may find herself on the side where danger meets desire in a force that could break past the guard on her heart.

A Choice . . .

The threat of battle isn't the only conflict to fear. Faythe can't forget the deal she struck in the woods to save her friend's life—and it's time to fulfil. Finding the temple ruin leads them to harrowing discoveries within the castle . . . and something more sinister than the war that lingers. It seems everyone will receive more than they bargained for. A history that haunts, truths that destroy, and a tangled destiny they didn't expect.

This series feels like reading acotar or ToG for the first time . Absolutely hooked and could not put the book down for hours and hours.
Pushed through the narrator, I didn’t like how the characters were portrayed (voices and accents sounded forced). She would maybe be better suited for non fiction stories idk. Would have liked for Elizabeth Evans to finish the rest of the series.

Great story , the narrator threw me off

After finishing 3 SJM series, read by Elizabeth Evans, I was eager to start this series. Despite some less than stellar word choices by Penaranda (only so many times I can hear “relished” misused), Evans’s skill in book 1 made made up for it, and I was caught up in the characters, the world, and the story. I eagerly downloaded book 2 and was dismayed to hear a different narrator. Dismay quickly deepened. I ended up downloading book 2 on my Kindle, finishing it there. It was easier to overlook the need for editing out overused and misused words to enjoy the story.
The story is good, not on a level with Maas, but enjoyable despite Faythe’s cringe-worthy self doubt. All of the characters begin to flesh out in book 2 and the world-building takes clearer shape. Without creating a spoiler alert, I must say it opens and closes with an appearance by Reuben that I still don’t get. Answers in book 3? Maybe.

Narrator makes all the difference

I love the story, but I had to take frequent breaks and speed up the pace of the narrator. Elizabeth Evans was great in the first book, but it was definitely hard to finish the book with this narrator.

Narrator was not good

Not a fan of the narrator but enjoyed the story, found family, and action. Looking forward to the rest of the series.

I love Elisabeth Evans, I truly got wrapped up in the first book, totally downloaded the second before finishing the 1st....boy was I shocked when I heard the new narrator!!! All i seen was Elisabeth, and didnt think anything on it being a different one..OMG, such a great story to be destroyed by this one thing, should have never changed the narrator...I did read one persons advise on speading it up (never done this before) I actually speed mine to 1.10x and can tolorate it enough to stick with it...One thing I totally cant stand is when an author changes narrators mid series, a great way to destroy a good series alone....so sad...I will wait for a next book just because of a narrator....get in a hurry and you will turn people off you awesome story.

Love the Story, killed it with the narrator

I can barely listen... the awkward breathy and emotionless reading has to be a machine. It's the only explanation for the drawn out over enunciation and mispronunciation. it sou ds like when you have the software read your pdfs or captions for a tiktok.
The story itself is interesting but I keep getting distracted or disinterested by the narration.

it's not human!! worst narration ever

I love the story like really really love. I just don't like the narrator. She doesn't give the snark the characters deserve and I feel like the personalities were lost in her tone. It was hard to detect between characters as everyone just sounded the same. Great story terrible narration. Elizabeth Evans was so much more suited for this book series.

I wish they didn't switch the narrator 😮‍💨

Shouldn't have changed the narrator. First book had energy and excitement. If this narrator had read the first book, I never would have finished. Speeding up the reading makes it better and not so boring. The right narrator makes all the difference between a great book and an ok book.

Speed up the story

I love this series so far, but I wish Elizabeth Evans would've continued narrating.

Love this series, but...

This narrator is the worst. She puts you to sleep. So Mad. Elizabeth Evens has such a great track record with audiable. Especially with these kinds of books. It's like trying to connect with the characters all over again. I wish authors would wait until most of their books are done (audiable ready). before releasing to audiable, so this doesn't happen.

The change of the narrator ruined it
