Publisher's summary

Prophesized heroes are reborn. The burden they bear is as terrible as it is necessary.

The dead city of Mahadev. In 3,000 years, none who have entered those ageless walls have returned to bear word of what evil lurks within. And yet it is there that Cinder and Anya must journey. A hard road with mysteries and dangers abounding.

And the greatest of those perils is imprisoned within the ruined temple at the very center of the necropolis’ dark heart. There, Cinder and Anya are given insight into the terrifying truth the world faces. It is an evil so vast that even the dark god Shet must bow before its will. It is the bringer of apocalypse, the ender of civilizations. If ever freed, the world will be helpless before its horrific power.

Forging an alliance all would have rather avoided, Cinder and Anya have no choice but to work with Shet to take on this greater enemy. Worse, it is a pact that will see them give away that which they hold most precious.

Vivid and Detailed, can't say enough great

If you loved how Mercedes Lackey could bring together character from different series you will love this one. It takes a deft hand to weave together multiple stories, plots and time lines so fluidly.
Like all his works the details and vivid. I can not say enough good about this book.
*there are some flash back sequences so do pay attention and not zone out.

Very good progression fantasy with romance elements

This series continues to be a very solid progression fantasy with heavy elements of romance that are done tastefully and right. Knocked to 4 stars due to the large number of changing POVs to characters who ultimately do little more than provide exposition. Still well worth the credit/cash. Looking forward to the 4th!

Memory Loss

The memory loss thing was redundant he could left that out I skipped 3 chapters just to get past that part unnecessary. Others in that this book was pretty good!

Look. Davis.

How dare you! I am angrily stating that it was a great book. You jerk. Beautifully written, amazing story, and you're a jerk. Had me on my toes and left me with goosebumps. Jerk. I cannot wait untill book 4. So I can cure my current antipathy (you taught me this word). Jerk. 10/10 would recommend to all.

A misophonic’s nightmare

The story is good, but I cringe every time the narrator makes phlegm noises to represent a character “scoff” (which happens a lot in the series) and the sound effects for the demon voices are utterly unbearable.

If you suffer from Misophonia, skip the entire series in audio format - it’s just gets more and more unbearable. Pick-up the book instead.

Audible needs to simply narrate the book or disclose sound effects; because some of us find them incredibly annoying.

Good series utterly ruined by sound effects

I love Nick as a narrator and have never once had cause to complain. until now. I won't even finish the book. the disgusting and grating noises attached to a witch and demon are so offensive and irritating that I had a physical reaction. I could not rip the headphones out of my ears fast enough. the sounds are things obnoxious 10 year Olds would do to annoy someone. story is good. if you liked the previous books, this one is a great advancement of the story. all the previous series finally starting to be woven together and they are very well done excepting the unoriginal names of things such as weaves. but omg what were you thinking???? those noises are unacceptable. at the least you should have used real sound effects of some kind and not made disgusting idiotic noises from your mouth. pathetic. I say again, I love nick. listened to dozens of his narrations. ditching this series since I can't finish this book. let's not let this happen again.
