Publisher's summary
Published in 1938, Cyril Lionel Robert (C. L. R.) James' The Black Jacobins is the little-known story of the only successful slave revolution known in history. It was this 12-year struggle of the African slaves in the French colony of San Domingo that led to the establishment of the Republic of Haiti in 1804. The uprising was inspired by the ideals of the French Revolution that had begun in 1789, just two years before, and in this work James goes to great lengths to show the relationship between the two upheavals.
The Black Jacobins was an early example of what is known as "history from below", telling the story of key moments from the point of view of ordinary people rather than high-ranking politicians and noblemen. Although James' Marxism colors his view of events in the book, The Black Jacobins is considered a classic work and gives an accurate and groundbreaking portrayal of a unique historical event.

For the last 100,000 years, we Sapiens have accumulated enormous power. But despite all our discoveries, inventions, and conquests, we now find ourselves in an existential crisis. Story
Our ability to prevent and reverse these conditions—and feel incredible today—is under our control and simpler than we think. The key is our metabolic function—the most important and least understood factor in our overall health. As Dr. Casey Means explains in this book, nearly every health problem we face can be explained by how well the cells in our body create and use energy. To live free from frustrating symptoms and life-threatening disease, we need our cells to be optimally powered so that they can create “good energy,” the essential fuel that impacts every aspect of our wellbeing.

Stunning in its Attempt to Trivialize This Book!
Replete with backhanded compliments and quoting primarily negative commentary on this seminal work, the analysis trivializes the academic credibility of the work, it’s impact, and the importance of the Haitian Revolution (eg, suggesting it was derivative of the revolution of whites in France). This was a waste of time!!
