Publisher's Summary

When Lady Swift is invited to her old school, she walks through familiar classrooms, finds her favorite books in the library...and surely, that’s not a body? Time for a lesson in murder!

Autumn, 1921. Lady Eleanor Swift is invited to her old school, St Mary’s, as a guest speaker. Her favorite teacher, Mrs. Wadsworth, has asked that Eleanor talk about her intrepid travels around the globe - travelling the Silk Road by bicycle, crossing the Himalayas and even befriending the Maharaja of India. But in the circumstances, perhaps it would have been a good idea to talk about her career as a daring detective....

Because no sooner has Eleanor brushed up on her times tables than she is greeted by terrible news: Mrs. Wadsworth has been murdered. Eleanor is utterly devastated, but she owes it to her dearest teacher to find out who killed her and why. So, alongside Gladstone the bulldog, it’s best paw forward to track down a villain.

But when the art teacher is also found dead, Eleanor is sure someone is trying to do away with the people who taught her everything. As Eleanor delves into possible motives, she discovers a clue in the most unlikely place: her mother’s old school diary. Does the route to the murderer lie within a secret passageway her mother uncovered? Can Eleanor nail the culprit in time, or is the killer coming for her next?

A totally gripping and glamorous 1920s cozy! Fans of Agatha Christie, T.E. Kinsey, and Rhys Bowen are in for a treat.

A Lesson in Cozy Mystery

This is my very favorite in this delightful series. May Eleanor, Hugh, and Clifford live forever and not age! Written with intelligence, wit, and warmth, that does not stray into sentimentality, this novel is one of the finest examples of cozy mysteries I have found. Bright’s characters live and move in a world that draws you in without trying to impress the reader with an over abundance of historical detail or authorial attempts to hit all the cozy buttons. What you learn comes naturally without self-conscious effort on the author’s part. This setting in a British girl’s school is shows Lady Swift and Clifford and Hugh at their best. Eleanor’s self-talk as always is a delight. I will not say more for fear of spoiling a delightful read.

Another great installment

I loved this book. I love Lady Swift , and all of the characters. I did miss the ladies of the house- but this was fun to see the progression a glimpse into her previous life, as well as the slow burn of her relationship with Seldon. I’m

I’m really sad that this is coming to an end. But I love the background of each storyline. I also love the historical Nate’s at the end. Or the recipe at the end of book 3 I think I will try making that fudge.

My favourite book in the series so far

Loved the latest Lady Eleanor Swift’s adventure with her butler and bulldog in tow. Karen Cass does good narration but if you’ve listened to her before some of the voices are a bit the same as previously used ones (for earlier characters in the series). However this doesn’t detract from another fun murder mystery that had me laughing out loud at times.

editing issues

Ch. 8 @ 4:18 – gap mid-word: "Seldon repl--- ---commitally from his seat across the dining table"

What I'm guessing is "ied non-" is cut.

Ch. 17 @ 12:09 "how am I supposed—" cuts off, then 3 seconds silence, then the next chapter starts.

Otherwise, as always, a fun narrative and good narration – Karen Cas can really pitch well for male voices.

Still slightly irksome that Eleanor refers to herself in the 3rd person, sometime mixing person within a sentence, e.g. something like "I what what that's about, Ellie", but overall an enjoyable series with likeable characters. Keep 'em coming!

Easy listening

If you like harrowing, violent, terrifying, tense thrillers - this is not for you! The Lady Swift mysteries are gentle, warm and easy to listen to. Lovely relationships between her and Butler Clifford and also the gorgeous Inspector. Enough intrigue to keep you interested and a budding suspicion of romance?
Ideal to drift off to sleep with or complete a pile of ironing . Can't wait for the next one.....
