The beginning of an epic journey

I have to start by saying this is not a book that I typically would be drawn to as a reader. But I’m so glad I listened. Sean Clarke weaves a compelling story/adventure that you get caught up in. I can’t say the amount of times I was frustrated by yet another curve ball thrown in the way of the protagonist. Curtis Michael Holland’s narration was lovely. He leans into the pain and creates such empathy for the protagonist. His character voices are diverse and engaging and his voice is just smooth as silk. Even and steady and true.

Exceptional Narration Brings This Fantasy to Life

What is sure to be an epic trilogy is only slightly handicapped by this first novel clearly working hard to set up future installments of the story. The narration is superb and each character feels alive. I am looking forward to future installments of the story and discovering where Jacob continues to go on his journey.
