Publisher's Summary

An orphan girl. A hellish spirit. A fight for more than just her life.

When Del Lareaux leaves the St. Augustine orphanage, she is desperate to build a normal life for herself and Jimmy, the mentally handicapped boy she spent years protecting.

But when a hellish spirit is raised from the dark swamps of Louisiana, abominations of unimaginable horror begin to prey on the lost souls of New Orleans, and Del’s soul is the most coveted.

When Del learns the truth of her secret heritage, she is faced with a choice: forego the gift she was born with for the normal life she dreams of, or embrace her birthright and the dark consequences that follow.

A Grimoire Dark is an exciting new style of suspense-horror novel. Threads of Stephen King and Edgar Allen Poe weave a nightmare veil through which dark elements of a Lovecraftian horror tale are glimpsed; for, to view them directly would be one's undoing.

Dark Indeed

The story starts slowly and some patience is required but rewarded as it all comes together. The writing is "rich" and can be appreciated on its own. The dark forces of the Gris Gris Man continue to grow in strength as our main protagonist Del comes to grips with who she is and what she is becoming. Finishing with an exciting battle of good vs. evil, all the strings get tied together. I highly recommend it! The narration is excellent with difficult Creole accents, a mentally challenged boy, disembodied spirits, and more.

Dark Magic Horror

Having spent a good portion of her life in an orphanage, Del Larouche is able to leave there and begin her life as an adult. However, she can’t just leave Jimmy behind so she visits him until she can spring him from there. Del finds herself gifted with a talent and a heritage that had remained hidden until the dark spirit made its appearance. Del now has some decisions to make, not all of them easy!

This book takes place in 1963 and has strong references to Edgar Allen Poe. Taking place in New Orleans, the listener is gifted with an authentic creole accent for every character (well done!) and tidbits of voodoo and other dark magics. The author, D.S. Quinton captures the attention of the listener and holds it from word one to the end. He weaves a carefully constructed and well-delivered horror plot. His characters are well developed and at one point he got a “YES” for how he handled the Sister!

The narrator, Allen Grunerud, gives a strong and solid performance. His creole accent is well done, realistic and at times hard to understand but in a way that one expects (specifically for the handicapped character, Jimmy). However, it is rich and authentically done.
Overall, this book was well done, it was horrifying, to say the least … and the performance was captivating. I am looking forward to more!

There were no issues with the production or quality of this book. The quality of the sound was crisp and clear.

Great narrator!

Allen Grunerud did an outstanding job bringing these characters to life, especially with the creole accents! I found the storyline very captivating and kept me wanting to continue listening even though I had to stop for other obligations. Very creepy to listen to when you’re driving home alone at night, but I couldn’t shut it off!

I hope to find more audible books narrated by Grunerud.

Wonderful narration

The story itself is enchanting, spooky with dark trickery. Allen Grunerud does a wonderful job narrating, changing accents and even speeding up during dramatic parts of the story, drawing the reader in.

This should be a series.

This was probably the best performed book I have ever listened to. I don’t think I would have enjoyed this book had I read it.
Now to the story: I don’t usually like horror books they are not good reads to me and I usually get very bored with them. This book was very entertaining. I took my time with it cause I didn’t want it to end. The incantation/binding spell was my favorite part. I love how he makes references to “The Raven”. It was dark and mysterious I found myself completely enchanted in the story. I liked the New Orleans based themes and the hoodoo and voodoo parts.
The last thing I have to say is. PLEASE MAKE THIS A SERIES

Southern Horror At It's Best

I have never really experienced horror in a southern setting before but after seeing this on reddit i thought of giving it a try.

Its a story oozing in atmosphere of a small party vs a Demon. The prose was first class and knocked this out of the park. If you love Southern America and the horror within your in for a very good time i certainly loved every word, along with the performance.

1st class Horror.
