Publisher's summary

Alexis Ames has a life full of promise...but not all promises can be kept. When Alexis Ames is attacked by creatures that can't be real, she decides it's time she learns who she really is, with or without the help of her mother, who guards their family's secrets closely. After meeting the inhumanly attractive, multi-talented Tristan Knight, however, Alexis retreats behind her façade of normalcy...until she discovers he's not exactly normal either. Then their secrets begin to unravel.

Their union brings hope and promise to her family's secret society, the Angels' army, and to the future of mankind. But it also incites a dangerous pursuit by the enemy - Satan's minions and Tristan's creators. After all, Alexis and Tristan are a match made in Heaven and in Hell.

A well written book, but it annoyed me!

I liked most of the characters. But....I could not stand Alexis' whiny, baby talk. The first half of the book it is not so noticeable, but the second half made you want to knock her in the head and yell grow up. I have to fault the mother and the rest of the group who purposely sheltered her for that. Perhaps this book starts her character off with such an immature outlook so that by the second addition we can see how much she has grown. I just don't know if I am too annoyed with the whiny, teeth gritting sound of her to even download the second. Okay, I have a couple of questions. 1. If you know that there is a group out to destroy your daughter, why do you not teach her self defense or something other than biting her nails so she can defend herself? 2. If Tristan is the ultimate weapon, why was he defeated in the very first battle we get to see?
Now, it might be that I am drawn more towards grittier, darker PNs. This book seemed to be the Disney version of a fairytale rather than a Grimm's version. And I am sure as long as something can be done with the whiny tone of Alexis, the second book might answer these questions for me. I just don't know if I want to bother. I am normally a quick listener when it comes to books, but I knew something was wrong when I downloaded another book and listened to 18 hours of it before I could come back and finish this one.

This is just my opinion and I can see from other reviews that I am in the minority on this one. But......to each his own :)

On to the Next~~~

WOW. A read that moves without a lag. The entire body of this book keeps you wanting to listen on and on to the end. It's exciting and leaves just enough unknown that there's no way you're gonna put the read down.
I've just finished downloading The Purpose and can hardly wait to begin it.
I like how the K.C. explains through the narration of the book who everyone is and what part they play in the species. I recommend beginning with the beginning. After listening to The Promise, I can't imagine read 2 or 3 before The Promise.
You'll want plenty of time to allow yourself uninterrupted listening time.
ENJOY. This is definitely worth the credit.

An amazing book made even better!!!

If you could sum up Promise in three words, what would they be?

Cant stop listening

Who was your favorite character and why?

I am a HUGE fan of Soul Savers series. I have been following this series since Promise came out! I have read all the books and patiently wait for each one to come out. I know too many of the characters to love only one. I do have a serious fondness for Owen and of course Alexis and Tristan, Rina and Sophie...OMG I will end up listing everyone in the books!

What about Erin Mallon’s performance did you like?

Erin Mallon made this book come to life! I listen to a lot of audio books and this is by far one of the best I have ever heard. I never once questioned which character was speaking as Narrator Erin Mallon gives each character a unique voice that not only identifies them but creates the character. As close as I already am to this series, Erin honestly made this book even better by bringing the character to life on audio.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

I don't always agree that books should be made into films. This one however, I could totally see as a movie series. The movie would have to follow the books as closely as possible though. The world that Author Kristie Cook has created cannot be messed with.

My tag line? How far would you be willing to go for your soul mate?

Any additional comments?

THANK YOU to the amazing Author Kristie Cook for bringing this book to audible life! I am speechless at how well it was done and to narrator Erin Mallon...I sure hope to hear the rest of the series from you SOON!!!!!

Thank you all !!!!

Surprisingly enjoyable

Would you listen to Promise again? Why?

Yes, In fact I am hoping to listen to the next installment soon.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

The narration was good. The main character tended to be a bit whiney for my liking. I was reading along at times when I couldn't listen and I didn't feel the character was as whiney as portrayed.

NEXT?

Would you consider the audio edition of Promise to be better than the print version?

This was riveting! I want the rest in the series. It was so enjoyable I may just have to "read" the others if Audible wont record them.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Promise?

The car accident in the book shop, and how she handled her recovery. Very well done.

What does Erin Mallon bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

An ability to be in the story. To drift off and listen without effort.Continuity. I hate reading - a lot!!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Absolutely!

Any additional comments?

Where are the rest Audible?......... You really should make more effort to have a whole series available. I now will not get another one if the whole series isn't available. Too frustrating.

Story is great, but narration is horrible.

The story is so good it's worth the whiny, high pitched narration. Really wish someone else would have narrated this audio book. I won't buy anything else if narrated by Erin Mallon.

Amazing and beautiful

Would you consider the audio edition of Promise to be better than the print version?

Sometimes, having a book read to you is far more powerful than reading. I love Kristie's writing and Erin Mallon brings out Alexis and Tristan in a whole new light.

What other book might you compare Promise to and why?

Daughter of Smoke and Bone. It's similar with demons and angels at war, unable to love one another.

What about Erin Mallon’s performance did you like?

Her voice, her pacing. She gets the characters!

Any additional comments?

If you love paranormal romance, then you need this audio book!

I love the author but the narrator.. not so much

I love these books when they first came out. I binge read them all obsessively and was so excited to see the audio version. I listened to the sample and figured the narration wasn’t too bad… I was unfortunately wrong. Her voice is fine but I wanted more inflection and emotion from her reading. I guess I see people narrating books like acting. I wanted the hear and feel the drama happening and she was just too flat and monotone. I don’t know if it’s will continue listening to the series if she is the narrator for them all.

Struggled through it.

I struggled to get through this book, I found it predictable and could not stand Lexi. Weak, whiny and irrational. I think the way it was narrated only exacerbate it with high pitch whiny voices.
