Kim could tell at a glance Angel wasn't the average attractive yet poorly disguised extraterrestrial scout sent to assess Earth's defenses before the inevitable alien invasion. Angel's memory loss cover story? Lame. Robbing a passing ruffian of his shirt to cover her naked body? NOT a good way to avoid attracting attention! As a science fiction geek, Kim felt herself uniquely qualified to watch Angel and thwart her dark mission...once the alien got around to it.

But Angel had her own questions. She couldn't help but wonder, why would Kim invite a stranger home? Surely, it could only be for romance! Kim didn't dare correct her, not without giving herself away, and so both found themselves in an escalating romantic relationship neither actually wanted.

Is it possible lies and deception could lead to true love? Could projected feelings designed to fool the other become genuine?

A Date with Angel is a romantic escalation comedy full of misinterpretations, grand theories, and devious, romantic traps...and a suspected alien woman doing her best to meet a sci-fi paranoiac's expectations.

Any additional comments?

As the book begins, Kim who wants to keep her private life private comes across as an introvert making sure she does not allow anyone to get close to her. From the beginning Kim is reluctant to engage with Angel but when Kim does finally allow Angel into her life Kim quickly realizes that Angel may be an alien which might explain why some of the things Angel does just do not seem normal to Kim. This is why Kim has difficulty accepting and agreeing to do things with Angel even though Kim has no intentions of doing. At times, her actions seem to be short sighted and stupid for the most part. However, to me there is an underlying story going on in this book...a story of a woman with many trust issues, a deep shyness, who, and has closed off any kind of personal relationship which might allow her to get hurt. The book holds your interest by trying to understand how Kim justifies the things that she feels and does. The fact that each step forward in Kim & Angel's relationship is because of some devious and evil master plan that Angel has concocted to trick Kim to help her complete her mission is what keeps the story moving forward. And the fact that Angel agrees with it, makes the two a matched pair. By the end of the book, Kim now has someone in her life who is more important to her than all of her insecurities. The is the underlying story.

Unlike some... I can see how a geeky introvert may strugle when learning uncomfortable truths about herself... And may find motivation to gain this knowledge when presented by a sexy alien of the unexpected gender...in this scenario. I like the story ... It is cute. And it seems to attqtch well to modern.... My friends only talk to me over the net... Culture.

So much new

About 85% of this book is merely one "girl's" struggle coming to terms with her sexuality (lesbian). While some of it rings true, most of it is highly redundant and we go through the same cycle over and over and over and over until one is begging for an end. She back-tracks herself all over the place, and while that does happen, people rarely do so that often, that fast, and in such predictable fashion.

The rest is a half-hearted attempt at science fiction which more often than not, seems made up on the spot and contradicts itself with regularity.

All that being said, the author does manage to interject some humor, so it's not completely un-entertaining. If you have nothing else to do, or if you're immune to cyclic frustration, it might be okay. Or if you have the memory of a goldfish!
