Annev has avoided one fate. But a darker path may still claim him....

After surviving the destruction of Chaenbalu, new mysteries and greater threats await Annev and his friends in the capital city of Luqura. As they navigate the city’s perilous streets, Annev searches for a way to control his nascent magic and remove the cursed artifact now fused to his body.

But what might removing it cost him?

As Annev grapples with his magic, Fyn joins forces with old enemies and new allies, waging a secret war against Luqura’s corrupt guilds in the hopes of forging his own criminal empire. Deep in the Brakewood, Myjun is learning new skills of her own as apprentice to Oyru, the shadow assassin who attacked the village of Chaenbalu - but the power of revenge comes at a daunting price. And back in Chaenbalu itself, left for dead in the Academy’s ruins, Kenton seeks salvation in the only place he can: the power hoarded in the Vault of Damnation....

The build up of the existing characters and the creation of new ones was fantastic. My imagination went wild as I listened to every detail. You can tell there is so much to this world than we even see in the books. There could be so many tangents but it was kept moving forward and coming together. Absolute must read!

coming of age, entourage building, world making, magic systems and gods, clashing egos, twisted romance and revenge. MC is humble but imperfect, needing and accepting guidance from mentors and even overcoming what others expect him to do, to BE to cast off predisposed beliefs and blazes his own path thru the new found leadership he finds himself undertaking. a role that he wears as if....fate intervened... must read, can't wait for book 3 and this stud author is a man of the people, willing to be amongst his readers instead of feeling he should float above, like the rothfusses and martins etc that have been the faces of fantasy for far too long. keep it up Justin!

Fantastic! One of my top story tellers!

I thought this was a good story I’m actually going to try to find to see if there is a book 3 gotten bit I’m actually impressed with that deafness of the story the art of death and time the story with all the different types of magic it’s like how did he keep all of that together? It was good I thought it was good.

What an unexpected joy!! A complex hero/villain MC, tons of intrigue, traps, and skullduggery. Easily the best new series I’ve found since Stormlight, Cradle, or Beginning After the End. I read a ton of Fantasy/gameLit/Space Opera to the tune of around 3-5 books a week and this series slaps! Get it and you’re welcome! :)
