Publisher's summary

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Heather Graham comes a new story in her Krewe of Hunters series…

Casey Nicholson has always been a little bit sensitive, and she puts it to use in her shop in Jackson Square, where she reads tarot cards and tea leaves. She’s not a medium, but she can read people well.

When the ghost of Lena Marceau comes to her in the cemetery, shedding tears and begging for help, Casey’s at first terrified and then determined. Lena knows she was the victim of a malicious murder. Assumes her husband was, as well, and now fears that her daughter and sister are also in danger. And all over what she believes is someone’s quest to control Marceau Industries, the company left to Lena’s late husband.

Casey isn’t sure how she can help Lena. She isn’t an investigator or with any arm of law enforcement. But when she receives a visit from a tall, dark and very handsome stranger - ironically an FBI agent - she realizes that she’s being drawn into a deadly game where she must discover the truth or possibly die trying.

Special Agent Ryder McKinley of the Krewe of Hunters has his own strange connection to the case. Hoping to solve the mystery of his cousin’s death, he arrives at Casey’s shop during his hunt for answers and finds something wholly unexpected. He fears that Casey’s involvement puts her in danger, yet she’s already knee-deep in deadly waters. Unfortunately, there’s nothing to do but follow the leads and hope they don’t also fall prey to the vicious and very human evil hunting his family.

**Every 1001 Dark Nights novella is a standalone story. For new listeners, it’s an introduction to an author’s world. And for fans, it’s a bonus book in the author’s series. We hope you'll enjoy each one as much as we do.**

The Dead Heat of Summer

It is an interesting novella that is about the story of Lena Marceau and her husband who were killed because of their inheritance. After the death of their beloved grandfather, his will gave them total control of the business. Soon after this, another member of the board, the senior member of the board was found dead. During the time of discovery, he was declared dead by a heart attack when he did not have any history of heart disease. Before they know it, Anthony Marceau was also found dead in a questionable way. Shortly after his wife meets the same faith and things start to fall apart that the brother-in-law started to investigate somehow, they discovered that William Marley did not have heart disease and that his heart attack was helped. His body was assumed and after the test, it was discovered that he was murdered. It led to the reopening of the investigation of Mr. Anthony Marceau and Mrs. Lena Marceau's body. A beautiful mind came into this because Lena went to Ms. Casey Nicholson for help before then she could not find her cousin. It was through her that Special Agent Ryder McKinley was able to see his cousin. With the help of Jackson Crow and other agents, they discovered the killers and brought them to justice for the crime they committed against their family members.

Narrator ok

Narrator seemed less than interested in being involved with the story and it’s characters. The voices for each were ok, the ‘he said/she said’ was a bit annoying as he produced them. Overall was ok.
I do understand the challenges of narrating a book and becoming each character, bringing them and the story alive. Hence, the 4stars as opposed to 3.

Average 1001 nights story

Good summer entertainment. Average Heather Graham Krewe of Hunters. You don't pick these up and expect great literature!

This story for me was: GOOD

For me this story was good not great. All the 1001 books I’ve listened to so far have been Lexi Blake’s and read by Ryan West❤️❤️ they don’t get much better than that! So this book wasn’t exactly what I was expecting and it being short probably did help that. It’s still a pretty good short story it just didn’t draw me in and that could have had more to do with the narrator who seemed a little too monotone.

Worst Krewe book

I have bought all of The Krewe of Hunters books and novellas and this is the worst one. The narrator and the book were both lacking if it had been a full length book I would never have finished it. Save your time and money and pass on this title, I did not think it was up to Heather Graham’s other Krewe books.
