Publisher's Summary

A tragic past. An uncertain future

Twelve years after the grisly murder of her parents, Kaitlyn Delaney has finally found peace. She has friends, a good job, a place to call home and a new life to live. But then a shadow creeps in from Katie's past, reminding her that she will never completely escape its terrifying grip.

When private investigator Dan Oliver is called to the scene of a gruesome crime in New Orleans, he can't help but hear echoes of the Delaney case, the unsolved murder that made him leave law enforcement. As he digs deeper, he unearths more chilling similarities—including mysterious letters connecting the killer to a string of murders that terrorized the Big Easy in 1919.

Now reunited after all this time, Dan and Katie scour the streets together, desperate to find answers before more lives are lost. But the otherworldly roots of this evil run far deeper than they ever imagined…and only the most precious of sacrifices will bring its twisted reign to an end.

Good story but...

First, I thoroughly enjoy HG’s books. I like the Krewe books specifics. This was a great story, but I’m from Louisiana. I say that so you will understand my second. Some narrators are excellent and some not so much, this wasn’t a terrible narrator except he didn’t bother to research the pronunciation of important words from Louisiana. I realize we have some crazy eclectic words here, but it was very distracting to me when he spoke them. If you’re not from Louisiana, then it likely won’t bother you. It’s worth the read.

Great listen that keeps you on the edge of your seat.

I truly enjoyed this book, especially as Katie and Dan take folks on history tours of NOLA via donkeys.
Heather Graham brings NOLA alive through her storytelling, unfortunately Roger Wayne tries repeatedly to butcher the pronunciations of so many words, that it times it’s hard to continue listening.
I’m glad that I did finish the book, despite the assault upon my auditory nerves.

At least learn to pronounce the words correctly...

Usually the narrators know how to at least say beignet(been-yay) when narrating a book based in Louisiana, that should be important to the author. Liked the story, the delivery could have been better.

Mispronounced words should be re-recorded.

I’ve always enjoyed Heather Graham and especially her Crew of Hunters novels, but I’m wondering if she listens (or pays someone to listen) to the audiobooks. Simple Nola words we’re so badly miss pronounce that they distracted me from the story on numerous occasions.

Narrator slaughtered basic NOLA words...

example "beignets" & "Le se bon ton roulette" for example. He really needed a coach!
