From international bestselling author Brad Parks comes a new thriller about an ordinary man who may be able to save the world as we know it - but to do so, he must make an impossible choice.

Nate Lovejoy is a self-proclaimed nobody, a stay-at-home dad who doesn’t believe he’s important to anyone but his wife and their two daughters. So it’s a shock when members of a powerful secret society kidnap and spirit Nate away to a mansion at the behest of their leader, Vanslow DeGange, who claims to know the future. He’s foreseen that a billion people could die - unless Nate acts.

It seems improbable, especially given what DeGange says will set this mass casualty incident in motion: a lawsuit against the biggest power company in Virginia, being brought by Nate’s wife, Jenny.

Nate quickly smells a scam being perpetrated by the power company. But at every turn, it becomes apparent there’s more to DeGange’s gift than Nate wants to acknowledge. A billion people really could die, and Nate might be the only one who can save them.

All he has to do is the unthinkable.

There's definitely a bit of a bed to suspend disbelief like in most fiction, this one more so than most but within my threshold of acceptability. The story was unique and had some unexpected twists.

The female narrator is not my favorite, but nowhere as bad as people are making her out to be.

Unlike the negative reviews, I liked it

The story wasn't bad. What distracted me the most was the voice of the female narrator. She sounds like a pre-teen. This story needs a woman with a more mature voice.

Average

The story was entertaining and fast paced, but when I heard the female reader, I almost abandoned the book. I thought my recording had sped up. Her voice was so nasal and so off, it was beyond irritating.

... If Audible publishes my review. As of now they are holding on to one new review and have taken down two. All three are five star reviews.
Hopefully this one will be compliant enough for them.
This book is excellent. A husband is kidnapped and given a story about his wife that he finds hard to believe. He’s also told he has to kill her. He begins an investigation and starts punching holes in the story he was given. As time moves along there are many inconsistencies. The whole premise that you are lead to believe has absolutely nothing to do with what is actually going on. And every time you think you’ve got it, you don’t ! The ending is a little strange and not at all what I expected. Overall this is a worthwhile book.

The two narrators do a great job together.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

I had to stop after 4 hours in (of this 10 hour book) because the storyline's premise was too frustrating for me. Perhaps I'm just too different from the main character but try as I might, I couldnt suspend disbelief enough to believe he would really act like he did and the whole thing was just leaving me feeling stressed out and negative, so I've quit the book.

too frustrating of a premise for me
