Publisher's summary

No one can take away your pain - but there is something you can do to grow from it.

Each time someone passes away, they leave behind an average of five grieving people.

Grief will affect every single one of us at some point in our lives. It’s an inevitable and natural fact of life, yet it is one of the hardest things we will ever go through.

Grief can be debilitating. It takes us unaware, and it can be so raw and painful that we become unable to function, much less move forward and process our feelings.

If you’ve lost a loved one, you might be struggling with a lack of energy and feelings of guilt, powerlessness, and loneliness. You're not alone, but you probably feel it.

Grief isn’t something we can avoid or bargain our way out of. It’s something we have to go through, and there’s no denying that it hurts like hell. But grief doesn’t have to be our enemy.

When we allow ourselves space to process our pain, we can grow kinder and wiser, and we can use our experiences to help others. We will never forget those we’ve lost, and navigating our grief will be a long journey, but life is not over.

In fact, it’s possible to emerge from grief a stronger, better person.

It’s possible to sidestep grief’s distractions and complications - the things that stop us from processing our pain. Those feelings of lethargy and powerlessness are common, but they’re not inevitable: You just need a road map to help you navigate them.

In 10 Habits for Grief and Loss, you’ll be supported through the grieving process as you come to terms with your loss. You’ll discover:

  • Ten habits and mindsets designed to help you not only cope with your loss, but to also emerge stronger
  • Psychological research to help you understand your reactions, allowing you to see just how normal your current feelings are as you grieve
  • The reason why 40 percent of first-month grievers display symptoms of major depression, and how you can avoid the same fate
  • Careful guidance to help you redefine healthy patterns from someone who’s been there themselves
  • The reason Prince Harry only sought counseling 20 years after the very public death of his mother - and how to address your grief much more quickly
  • How five key people in your life can help you through your grief, and how to figure out who they are
  • Why the one thing you probably thought you knew about happiness is wrong
  • How to avoid being a "stranded islander", no matter how alone you feel
  • Practical tips to help you navigate the physical symptoms of grief (hint: quality sleep is more than possible)
  • And much more

If you’ve lost a loved one, you may feel like you’re never going to recover.

As someone who’s lost several of the most important people in his life, Cortez Ranieri knows that feeling, and he has the experience that will help you grow from your pain.

No one can ever take away the love you feel for the person you’ve lost, and your life will never be exactly the same. But your life is not over, and your grief is not in charge.

With a little guidance, you can find the strength to honor what you’ve lost, and come out stronger on the other side.

Perfect book!

My dog has recently passed away; the loss was super painful to me since the dog my true companion for more than 14 years old. I went through tough times and grief due to the loss; luckily, I came across this audiobook that helped me cope with it and prevented me from a possible depression; the book has everything needed to redefine the healthy patterns to get back to normal. I highly recommended it cause it was my saver when I started to see everything in black back then.

Wish I had this earlier

There are a few times where I've lost loved ones. It is the worst feeling to have next to physical pain. What's worse than the feeling is how you may choose to cope with loss. Ranieri gives us a nice helpful program for us to cope with loss, being that he's been in the same predicament himself. I know that there are many things here that I could have implemented years ago that could have saved a lot of sadness and grief. If you need help with getting over a loss of someone or something, get this book.

Understanding Your Grief Makes a Better YOU!

This book is very informative! The habits listed in this book not only allow you to cope with grief and loss but also help you to be more mindful, care for yourself better, and be more disciplined. I like that the book emphasizes self-care and self-love as a way to handle grief. My favorite chapter is chapter 7. Confiding someone we trust about our pain is a great way to overcome grief as it allows us to process. When we are able to put our experience into words (verbally and/or on paper), it allows our brain to make connections and formulate meaning from the experience, enabling us to comprehend our experience better. Overall, the advice provided in this book is valuable as it goes beyond dealing with grief to help you become a better you.

This book helps solidify that it's okay to feel whatever you are feeling through the process. Grief is very individual.. An easy read, and highly recommended for anyone going through this long season. I will definitely re-read this in the future, as no doubt grief will rear its head again.

am I grieving … ? !

A friend suggested that I listen to this book, I thought," but I'm not grieving, how will this book be for me?". When I started listening, didn't even liked the narrators tone, (it make me feel uncomfortable in a way) . Decided to give it a try, ( maybe just to have a argument when my friend ask) to my surprise as I continue through it, I identify with it , no with the loss of a mother, or a love one, but with the sense of loss it self, I DIDN'T EXPECTED THAT ! Since my accident on 2012 I have been straggling. I thought nobody has notice, but it seems that the only one didn't was me, I will take this book suggestions to heart and take responsibility on my own life and decisions, It has make me realize that, I had being affecting every body around me too. Thanks ….

Great Advice for Griefing

This audiobook includes great tips on how to handle grief and loss. You can feel that the author has gone through this in his life and now shares the techniques that work the best. I think these habits are also extremely powerful even if we're not griefing that shows how important it is to live a healthy lifestyle. Cortez shows well what habits we need to include in our life to get mentally (and physically) stronger and happier overall. I can really recommend this audiobook.
