This fast-paced action novel is set in a future where the world has been almost destroyed. Like the award-winning novel Freak the Mighty, this is Philbrick at his very best.

It's the story of an epileptic teenager nicknamed Spaz, who begins the heroic fight to bring human intelligence back to the planet. In a world where most people are plugged into brain-drain entertainment systems, Spaz is the rare human being who can see life as it really is. When he meets an old man called Ryter, he begins to learn about Earth and its past. between the performance and the way the narration was written, Spaz felt like a very real person, though I personally couldn't relate to him much. made his story very compelling, though my only criticism is that there wasn't more... although the ambiguous ending is very well handled, in my opinion, and probably lends more to the story as a whole. I suppose I just like the universe.

Felt very real

when I was 10 years old I read The last book in the universe .
I felt so connected to the characters.
as a migrant child I struggled with the psychological pain and subliminal thought I had on my identity in a Anglo American state.
where I felt immense insecurity.
when I read this book I was able to identity my insecurity the resolve in the end of this book gave my 10 year old heart new life.
I am now enjoying this book with my own 10 year old.

from 10 to 30 this is still my favorite book

the narrator really brought life to spaz as he went on his adventure with Ryder. I had this book paperback before and loved it but it was just better hearing his character made out in the way he was with these tones.

captivating and attention grabbing.
