Resumen del Editor

In their best-seller Working with You Is Killing Me, Katherine Crowley and Kathi Elster taught readers how to free themselves from emotional traps created by difficult colleagues. Now they apply their research and insights to the challenges of "toxic bosses". Sooner or later, we all work for someone we can't stand. When that happens, some people quit, some suffer in silence, and others cope by sulking, obsessing, avoiding, or retaliating. But it's better to take control by applying the four-step process in this book:

  • Detect: Am I crazy or is my boss driving me crazy?
  • Detach: Accept that you can't change your boss, but you can take back your power.
  • Depersonalize: Learn to take your supervisor's behavior less personally.
  • Deal: Devise a plan to get what you need, manage your boss, and move your career forward.

Filled with concrete examples, this book will help readers take back their power from even the most challenging bad bosses - chronic critics, yellers, unconscious discriminators, control freaks, pathological liars, and more.

    Changed the Way I Work

I was being bullied by my boss and I was entering depression. This book helped me say "screw this" and I stopped asking for permission and started taking charge. The huge lack of leadership at work was an opportunity to be the leader myself. Great way to stop taking everything so personally.

Immediate relief, better than Alka Seltzer

Thank you to the authors of this book. I wish I had found something like this 20 years ago. A friend recently said to me that people don't quit companies they quit their bosses.

I was experiencing physical anxiety from my current work environment when I found this book. By chapter 4 my stress had dissipated and by the end of the book I felt completely re-empowered. I was doing all the wrong things to overcome my bad relationship with my boss and the information in this book completely reset my perspective and gave me the tools I need to continue doing my job well. I Highly recommend this book if anything in the preview rings true for you or you're feeling demoralized and de-valued at work.

    Too repetitive

The me and concept for the book are strong. The idea of the 4 Ds really drew me in. But there was not much substance beyond that. The strategies and pointers were listed over and over again.

    Too repetitive

Hopefully the book is better than this audiobook. The script is too repetitive. It’s like listening to a giant list of bullet points for hours, and then listening to same list again in the next section.
