Urgent and provocative, We: A Manifesto for Women Everwhere is “part self-help, part social theory, centered in the idea that instead of having it ‘all,’ women can live happier, better lives by becoming more free” (Glamour), from longtime friends Gillian Anderson and Jennifer Nadel.

We: A Manifesto for Women Everywhere is an uplifting, timely, and practical manual for creating change in women’s lives, with nine universal principles that help you confront life’s inevitable emotional and spiritual challenges. It’s about transitioning from a me-first culture and imagining what a we-based world might look like.

In We, Anderson and Nadel ask why so many women are locked in cycles of depression, addiction, self-criticism, and even self-harm. How much more effective and powerful would we all be if we replaced our current patterns of competition, criticism, and comparison with collaboration, cooperation, and compassion?

Putting these values at the center of our lives allows each of us to be happier and more empowered, and to replace harmful habits with a more positive, peaceful, and rewarding way of being. We is a rallying cry for “every woman, everywhere on the planet. Open to any page. And there you will find a truth that can set you free” (Christiane Northrup, MD, author of Women’s Bodies, Women’s Wisdom).

This should be required reading for all women... heck all teenage girls. I wish I had this book 20 years ago. Kudos. Well done.

gillian Andersons performance was outstanding. I enjoyed the feminine camaraderie attitude of the message and positive outlook. I love hearing the wisdom of these women. I do feel that the elephant in the room, which is missing from this book is leaning on faith rather than self. Their message dovetails with a faith-filled life. I am not strong enough to fix the broken world and my broken self. I need God to complete the hole I have to be content. Thanks so much for the book, ladies!

good listen

Would you consider the audio edition of We: A Manifesto for Women Everywhere to be better than the print version?

The advantage of the audio is the ability for the narrator/author to emphasize certain passages.

What other book might you compare We: A Manifesto for Women Everywhere to and why?

No recent books come to mind. The approach and intention of the WE authors was different and unique.

Have you listened to any of Gillian Anderson and Jennifer Nadel ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have listened. I think they were both more comfortable with this book for obvious reasons.

If you could give We: A Manifesto for Women Everywhere a new subtitle, what would it be?

The Looking Glass

Any additional comments?

I hope there is a follow up in a year or two.
This is so much more than a typical "self help" genre book.

The ideas fall short and offer nothing new. Both authors narrate wonderfully but that's honestly the only highlight.

I really wanted to love this but...

Not at all what I expected from the reviews I read. Reviews did not describe We as a whiney, self-help book. I was expecting something dynamic .. this was not. If I had gotten the book from the library, it would have gone back after the first disc, if I made it through the first disc. Since I got it through a gift subscription, I felt compelled to finish it ... but just could not make it through the last 50 minutes, when any semblance of organization broke down, and the droning voices pretty much just preached. The positive take away for me ... My childhood was not, and my life is not, as dysfunctional as some people's. Or maybe I can move beyond the negatives and get on with life without being told I need to.

disappointing
