Maybe the best narrator I’ve heard

Ok before I review the book, I just have to state for the record that this narrator is 12/10. I was really impressed at the quality of the different voices he used for various characters, particularly the female characters.
The book was awesome, unexpected and included in my prime( though honestly I would not have been disappointed if I had used a credit). Fast paced, interesting story, not stock standard haunted house at all. A very pleasant surprise all the way around.

Great story, pace and narration!

This was a great horror suspense. You cannot go wrong with this one. I was on the edge of my seat. I felt like I was along for the ride, enmeshed with the characters.

Loved It

Thoroughly enjoyed the story, the characters, and the narrator. I added this author to my favorites list. Highly recommend.

Blew me away

This story is very captivating. It's intense from beginning to end. The main character stumbles upon a structure in the middle of the Wisconsin Woods. Little did the main character know his life would be forever changed.

Dated misogynistic writing

this is the third book of Graham Masterson's that I have read. In these books, women are only included as sexual objects, conniving/tricksters, or wives who cheat/leave.

I do recognize that these were written in the 1980s, but found myself continually frustrated by the overly descriptive sections describing the breasts, legs, and shapeliness of female characters. All male characters just look at women as sex objects. there are no similar descriptions of men's rippling muscles or plump bodies. just descriptions of women's plump breasts and creamy flesh

I actually have enjoyed the overall plot lines of this book, as well as others Masterson has written. this book, and his others, are not repetitive or similar to other thriller/horror tropes. I really enjoyed the stories, but the representation of women is gross

Scary Movie Potential

This would make a great movie even though or because the MC is so unlikeable. That said, it was fascinating and scary. Will be checking out more from this author. Reader did a great job.

Narrator was a master of voices!! Amazing!
Very unique storyline and characters. Loved Karen!
Very few plot holes and very well written.
Recommend this listen. You won’t be disappointed!!

Good scary story

Loved the narration he really got into the characters. Very scary moments and very entertaining. Will look for more like this

Strong Start, Weak Finish

Gripping start, great premise, good gore, and a high-potential plot. However, a very mid finish and lack of depth/connection with characters somewhat overshadowed the entire novel. It reads as it should — classic 80s horror novel. Unlikeable (by me) Jack had a much stronger connection with concrete and the super whiny secondary character, Karen, than I did with any of the other characters. A haunted asylum riddled with disappearances and people living in the walls spiraled downward into a Druid/Celtic magic haunting beat with…holy water.

Decent

The book itself was okay. The writer seemed to want to focus more on gore than the story. The narrator almost ruined it though. Every time a character was in trouble his “yelling” voice sounded like an old man trying to get out his last words, and it was that way with every character in distress. Which happens a lot!
