Well written, beautifully performed.

My only complaint is that it's too short. But, don't get me wrong. it's due to the story being so captivating and great that you just can't stop listening. I love the back story and character development in this series so much. You really get a feel for the drive behind the characters' actions. Daniel Thomas May does a fantastic job with the whole cast. This series is especially good in getting to know the goings on for how VGO was developed and how it became the lifeboat for the Cataclysm.

Great read

Obviously the main storyline from the original series is better than this. However this is a nice twist. I just don't know that I care as much about the MC as much as I did for the original. I was hoping for a little bit more insight. Which this didn't provide. But that didn't stop me from enjoying it.

I think the illusionist is the most interesting and does the most world building of the VGO storyline. can't wait for the next entry. its o
so cool to see characters from the other stories in a different light .

nowhere near as good as former books

somehow the writer stopped using the game mechanics, and started writing more drama into the book.... whereas it would have been fun to hear more about our protagonist learning about alchemy.... suddenly he is banned from it within game mechanics.... and then our protagonist goes off on strange tangents....
take that into consideration with the abrupt and rapid relationship that the character gets into that seems to be not only toxic, but also an afterthought of the writer...
and the ending of the book was extremely rushed going from everything going good... to sudden deep relationship with a woman.. that he basically gives up everything he has worked for to continue the relationship...
I will try the next book if it is available... hopefully this was just a bad episode...
and once again the reader tends to think whispers are voices... making it extremely hard to hear at times

Great backstory to the series

I was wondering if the series would be fleshed out after the initial release. I’m very glad it did as there were a lot of loose ends.

I also enjoy the nuances of the character personas. It humanizes them. Often stories overlook this element of the story telling process.

I look forward to hearing the rest of the stories in this series.

Another Solid Entry

This was another solid entry into VGO's story. The audio performance was once again on point. I am very interested in seeing where Alan's story takes him as we grow closer to the events in the other books.

Recomend the book

I’m about to start work so let me be quick. This was a good book with a lot of continuation of the major plot lines in the previous two. It helps to further characterize charecters who appear more here than in the main series, and helps to provide further context of the next stages of the main series.
I definetly recomend this book, it is best enjoyed with some context from the main series, but I may have overstepped by bounds a little with the last book and the side quests, both of which are direct follow ups in some ways. Up to reader descression.
Based on context I bet that the next book I’m reading, the firebrand series, will be set near this time so I read in a good chronological order if not the best reading order period. I guess that’s good to know, maybe I should have asked more for rescimendations on order, lol.

I enjoy learning more lore about these fantasy worlds people create, and this series is really helping me envision this game world.

Was a good read

I loved the world building and characters initially with the main story following jack but this series takes all of that and multiplies it by 10. Every single persons story is engaging, every interaction is entertaining. This 3rd book made me feel like I was reading the way of the shaken series but with-ought the main character feeling like he’s the center of the universe.


All n all it’s 100% worth the credits and I hope they continue to tell the story like this.
