Banville at his best in this short and compelling novel. The narration is, likewise, excellent. A great listen!

Brilliantly thought out. A genius at work . John Banville writes like a dream and induces much thought.

AS ABOVE. THIS WOULD HAVE MADE A BRILLIANT SHORT STORY BUT BECAME TEDIOUS AND REDUNDANT

Meh. Ultimately boring.

Not much to say. Hung in with it but really didn’t care about any of the characters.

Banville at his best

The sympathy for Evelyn Dolman builds slowly to eventually tip the disappointment one feels in him as the story progressed. A good solid story and a satisfying ending.

Dim view of Venice

Dim view of Venice. Not the Venice I know. That it’s a Disneyworld for adults. A mystery of sorts with a twisted solution. A murder perhaps or two murders perhaps. The protagonist seems a fool. A possible solution is presented, but is it. The protagonist develops an infected thumb bit that is never explained.
