Then a mysterious American arrives in town, and enlists Thomas’s help in finding a perfect location for his next movie. Though skeptical at first, soon Thomas starts to trust the stranger, Edgar, and, shaken from the drudgery of his days by the promise of Hollywood glamour, begins to see a different future for himself. But how much of what Edgar claims is true, and how far can his inspiration carry Thomas?

Lyrical prose

Enjoyed this read more than most. A stranger comes to town and changes the life of this man in unexpected ways. For a relatively short novel, it packs a punch with vivid descriptions, complex characters and beautiful prose.

Loved the theme of being creative. Ben Wood made the beach, fog, cold, the wet palatable.

A far off time

The lovely detail of the beach and movement of characters helps transport you to their time. It was so beautiful and unpredictable.
