Exciting action, deep characters

I love this book and it’s prequel. So much deep emotional descriptiveness and great action and suspense. Relationship between sisters and
Mother/child are beautifully written. Fast paced, great writing!

The butchering of Irish names and words was so annoying!

The story was great but the narration was terrible. The narrator could not pronounce Irish names and Irish words. She pronounced “fàilte”
incorrectly, as well as the names, Saoirse, Lorcan and Eimear. Her accent was horrible. I wish the narrator was actually Irish.

Glad to see the resolution for Tessa and Marion. Terrific characters, locations, and descriptions of characters and places.

Narrator was fantastic and had terrific inflection and accent.really well done and well read.Highly recommend.

Lovely conclusion to story of two sisters

This is so good. It was hard to turn it off. True, some of the pronunciations weren’t exactly right, but the performance was otherwise gripping. A wonderful, touching angle on a long and painful cultural-political history.

Loved the characters and it kept me riveted throughout!

The narration is excellent and the main character, Tessa, and her sister, Marion, are interesting and given enough depth to really care about.
It was intense and kept me wondering what would happen up to the end. Highly recommended for thriller/suspense readers!

Wowowwow! Brilliant and emotional

I hated to finish this novel. It was just as riveting as the first- Northern Spy. The story continues between these two sisters with deep emotional connections, betrayal and their will to survive.

I'm on the Fence

I enjoyed this story. Focusing on two sisters and their family plight amidst "The Troubles" of Ireland, this is at once interesting, shocking, and somehow mesmerizing. The sisters are very different from each other, yet each is relatable on some level. My personal issue was that I had a tough time completely relating to either sister. It seems like they're in a predicament that has no way out; they're forced to do things that they would not naturally do. Yet I couldn't help feeling that if I had been in their places, I would have made completely different choices than they did.

Realistically, how can a kid raised Protestant in the United States during that time completely understand the depth and breadth of their issues? As a teenager during the late 60s-70s, it didn't make sense to me that the factions would display their extreme discontent by placing bombs that killed innocent people. But how can I truly understand?

So, while I found the story intriguing, and I did feel that I had a slightly better sense of the conflict, I never completely connected with the main characters. It's an interesting read, though, and will keep many on their seats as the truth here is gradually revealed.
