Resumen del Editor

2022 Kirkus Reviews Best Books of the Year, Long-listed

Tautly wound and expertly crafted, Two Nights in Lisbon is a riveting thriller about a woman under pressure, and how far she will go when everything is on the line. The audiobook is read by AudioFile Golden Voice and Audie Award winning narrator January LaVoy.

“I defy anyone to read the first twenty pages of this breakneck novel, then try to put it down for five minutes. This is smart suspense at its very best.”—#1 New York Times bestselling author John Grisham

You think you know a person . . .

Ariel Pryce wakes up in Lisbon, alone. Her husband is gone—no warning, no note, not answering his phone. Something is wrong.

She starts with hotel security, then the police, then the American embassy, at each confronting questions she can’t fully answer: What exactly is John doing in Lisbon? Why would he drag her along on his business trip? Who would want to harm him? And why does Ariel know so little about her new—much younger—husband?

The clock is ticking. Ariel is increasingly frustrated and desperate, running out of time, and the one person in the world who can help is the one person she least wants to ask.

With sparkling prose and razor-sharp insights, bestselling author Chris Pavone delivers a stunning and sophisticated international thriller that will linger long after the surprising final moment.

Editorial Review

A solid ending!
While listening to Two Nights in Lisbon, I struggled a bit with what exactly was happening and why, but once the threads started unraveling, I was on the edge of my seat. I enjoyed the premise of the novel: a wife and her husband travel internationally for a business trip, and then one morning he’s missing from the hotel. Ariel, the wife, is understandably hysterical, especially when no one takes her seriously. To be fair, he was missing only a few hours. Her fear, however, is valid, considering that she didn’t really know his occupation or what business he was in Lisbon for. As she tries to figure out who and where her husband is, listeners get glimpses into Ariel’s past, which may give insight into how she ended up in this situation. In the end, I thoroughly enjoyed this slow-burn thriller. — Nicole R.

Fun story

The narration is incredible, which makes the story very compelling. A thriller whose ending I had it predicted.

An easy fun listen

This book was an easy escape. It was not an edge of your seat thriller, but it kept my interest the whole time and while I predicted some outcomes, others were a total surprise. I enjoyed it.

Disappointing

It took me at least one third of the way through to get truly interested in this story and to catch on to the writer’s style. There was a lot of back and forth from one location or section of time to another. The story seemed disjointed. I didn’t feel relief in the end and I have no clear understanding of what happened to the “bad guy”. I ended up feeling like this was a waste of my time.

The voices were amazing, though. I loved the performance.

Not his best

I like this author but this book was very slow to get off the ground. It did not get interesting until about 75% of the way through and even then the resolution seemed strained.

Pretty Good Yarn, but Lots of Fluff

The author of this book is clearly very smart. The book is very well written. Also the narration is excellent. The main story line for this book is quite good; good enough that when I got into it I really was compelled to see it through to see how it ended. However, I did find it maddening that much of the book diverted from the main story with flashbacks to the protagonist's troubled past, in agonizing detail. I must admit I skipped thru some of this trying to get back to the main track. I think this book must say a lot about the author and her view of life, people, country, etc. Her writing reflects a deep disdain for men (misandry/misandrist). Mose every character of any authority or real intelligence are women, and almost all men are portrayed as stupid, mean, selfish, dishonest, immoral, slovenly, and/or such. I didn't like that at all.

What a Trip!

One of those books I couldn’t put down. Suspenseful, original with lots of wow moments. Very timely book relating to the “Me Too” movement. Sadly, none of the events in the book seemed far fetched. A scathing look at the American Upper Crust examining their morals, priorities and politics.

Good narrator.

Very padded with personal commentary. Repetitive. Enjoyed the narrator though which helped. Too long, and angry tone.
