Resumen del Editor

If you’ve ever lain awake at night wondering what might be around the corner of your child’s adolescence, this book is for you! After more than 38 years of working with more than 2,500 teens, Mark Gregston, founder of Heartlight, a Christian residential counseling center, introduces Tough Guys and Drama Queens - a must-listen "how-to" book for parents of preteens and teens with time-tested, biblical techniques to guide you through these unavoidably challenging years.

Mark helps parents realize that some natural parenting approaches are actually counterproductive and therefore totally ineffective. In place of those he offers tried-and-true wisdom on the vital importance of relationship, forgiveness, and explains how conflict is actually the precursor to change. Every day your child is bombarded by a highly sexualized culture and overexposed to words and images that can influence them beyond your reach. Your connection to them during these years is critical as is your response to tough issues such as:

  • Appearance
  • Performance
  • Authority & respect
  • Boundaries

Complete with bonus insights, questions to engage your child, and instruction for teachers, counselors, pastors, and other family members, Tough Guys and Drama Queens offers proactive tools to prepare you for the incredible teen years ahead.

Not just a great book or thousands of teenage relationships to back it up

I don’t even know where I found the recommendation for this book. But we have one of the most challenging teenagers on the planet and we are have a kiddo at their boarding school and Mark truly knows what he’s talking about.

Highly recommend this book!

My youngest (4th out of 4 girls) is 15...I wish I would’ve known about this book 3 years ago!! Times have changed due to social media - Mark’s wisdom is priceless. I can’t recommend this book enough. My husband and I are making changes...we pray the changes will help our teen turn things around. Thank you Mark for your time and dedication to teenagers!

Some sound teachings and great approaches

Great book. Needs technology updates. Ex.. Snapchat vs texting, Twitter vs facebook, tumblr vs chat rooms

Examples a little outdated

This book has lots of great advice and helpful ways of approaching parenting teens. This is a Christian centered book, so listen with the understanding that you may not agree with everything(for me that was his view on sexual orientation and gender issues). He also refers to teens on FB but if you have teens now you know just change FB for any other social media app.

I'm sure Mark scored a lot of points with his kids

Before reading the book, I was aware parents are at fault for a lot of troubles brought on by teens. However, I had no idea Mark would spend over 95 percent of the time bashing parents while giving too few ideas about what to do in tough situations. I have a rebel tween for a grandson by marriage (step), and wished to know how to handle some tough situations. Instinct told me to try to build a relationship, but I need more direction. I'm almost as confused as I was before reading the book.
