excellent book

this is the first book that I have read by this author and it is excellent. it's a love story but also has a very interesting plot.

Julia Whelan is incredible as usual, but ultimately the story never got strong

Watered down plot with serious potential. I kept waiting for it it to get really good. The female main character….hard to sympathize or really even like. She needed to be better developed. Felt like a half written story

I wish she had more like this book that is relevant to today’s life nor in the past.

Perfect Labor Day read

This book is delicious. It blends a coastal Succession vibe with a Knives Out–style game and We Were Liars undertones, making it the perfect Labor Day read. It’s got some twists and turns that I didn’t see coming.

I loved how the story unfolded, layer by layer, as Alice uncovered more about her family during her exile. The romance subplot wasn’t essential to the narrative, but I appreciated its presence. Alice and Jack’s slow burn was a great touch.

One of my favorite frameworks while reading was imagining the Storm kids as embodiments of the “See No Evil, Speak No Evil, Hear No Evil” trio with one sibling set apart as “No Evil.” That lens made the family dynamics even more fascinating and gave the whole book an added edge.

Such a cruel set of parents

In any other setting, this family would be referred to social services! The children redeem themselves eventually, but the manipulative parents never express real love.

good story with excellent narration.

the slavish devotion to Jack's looks was irritating. very romance novel ish. I really enjoyed the story and thought the narration was excellent.

A Smart, Well Written Love Story

It’s been a long time since I read any kind of a romance novel, but this one was so well written with smart, funny dialogue I was immediately invested. And it is narrated by the great Julia Whelan to boot! Thoroughly entertaining. I was sorry for it to end. Now I need a sequel…
