Acerca de esta escucha
Work anxiety. Relationship anxiety. Social anxiety. World anxiety. Money anxiety. Health anxiety.
How does reading those words make you feel?
All too often, when we experience the things that give us anxiety, our first instinct is to try to run away or numb out from feeling them. But what if the unpleasant feelings you want to turn away from are actually vital sources of information about your well-being?
In The Wisdom of Anxiety, counselor Sheryl Paul examines the deeper meaning of the racing thoughts, sweaty palms, and insomnia that accompany the uncertain moments of our lives. No one likes to feel anxiety - and yet, Paul asserts it can be a remarkably direct messenger of our subconscious. Here you will learn how you can pause and listen to your anxieties to discover inner truths that you've been avoiding.
This lyrically written audiobook not only considers the many forms anxieties can take, but also provides deep-dive practices for addressing them at their roots.
Whether it's worry around raising children, nervousness about world events, or any other way anxiety manifests, The Wisdom of Anxiety can help you uncover the true source of your discomfort and find the rich self-knowledge within.

In this revolutionary book, renowned physician Gabor Maté eloquently dissects how in Western countries that pride themselves on their healthcare systems, chronic illness and general ill health are on the rise. Nearly 70 percent of Americans are on at least one prescription drug; more than half take two. In Canada, every fifth person has high blood pressure. In Europe, hypertension is diagnosed in more than 30 percent of the population. And everywhere, adolescent mental illness is on the rise. So what is really “normal” when it comes to health?

Trauma is a fact of life. Veterans and their families deal with the painful aftermath of combat; one in five Americans has been molested; one in four grew up with alcoholics; one in three couples have engaged in physical violence. Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, one of the world’s foremost experts on trauma, has spent more than three decades working with survivors. In The Body Keeps the Score, he uses recent scientific advances to show how trauma literally reshapes both body and brain, compromising sufferers’ capacities for pleasure, engagement, self-control, and trust.

Anxiety affects more than forty million Americans—a number that continues to climb in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. While conventional medicine tends to view anxiety as a “neck-up” problem—that is, one of brain chemistry and psychology—the truth is that the origins of anxiety are rooted in the body. In The Anatomy of Anxiety, holistic psychiatrist Dr. Ellen Vora offers nothing less than a paradigm shift in our understanding of anxiety and mental health, suggesting that anxiety is not simply a brain disorder but a whole-body condition.

Blessing in a book!
This book is a must read for anyone who struggles with anxiety... or even those who dont. Sheryl's perspective is such a healing balm for the soul and the anxious mind. I am so grateful for her deep work in this arena. This book is not a quick fix.. although even just listening is super insightful.. But the practices provided are truly transformational. When I stick with the lifestyle shifts, practices, and keep touching in with my loving inner parent, my perception, thoughts and life are radically different. She also has a very lovely writing style and I think Leslie, the reader for this audio book does a nice job and is a great fit for the content. Thank you so much for this book Sheryl ❤🙏❤

Good Choice for the Right Person at Right Time
I have dealt with anxiety and intrusive thoughts since early childhood. Though I have always been highly functional, now I am in my late twenties, and my symptoms have taken a turn for the worse. I chose to listen to this book to supplement my weekly meetings with a cognitive behavioral therapist. The central tenet of this book is a paradox: in order to gain some distance from your anxious thoughts, you need to bring them closer, and examine them with a curious mind. Running away from bad feelings only makes those feelings stronger and more creative. I do NOT think this book is for everyone: people who live in violent neighborhoods or who have experienced PTSD, for example, might not find it helpful to think of their anxiety as a welcome, metaphorical messenger (though I cannot speak for them). However, as a young, white woman who struggles with perfectionism and persistent unease, despite her many privileges, I found this book healing and insightful.

A life changing read
This book truly completely changed my outlook on anxiety. Its focus on compassion and curiosity and emphasis on the unconscious processes, has shifted how I am treating my anxiety. This book has been much more helpful than CBT based books I’ve read. It’s incredibly soothing and comforting to listen to, and the principles in it apply to healing all kinds of wounds and pains, not just anxiety.
