Great Story, Annoying Narrator

Loved both books in this series so far, but the narrators voice is screechy and annoying. It gets worse when she is portraying loud voices in particular, but it’s a minor detail and can be mitigated if you know a high tension or exciting moment is coming. Just prepare yourself lol.

Like its predecessor, great story, awesome writing, great adventure, with horror elements! The horror bit starts to take the stage here. Is it grim dark? Is it horror? A mystery?Cannot decide. Cannot wait for the next one

An excellent smart story

If this author does as well as he has done with these first two books with the third one, this series will go up into my top ten list right along side Abercrombie, Martin, Zelazny, Sanderson, Herbert and Rothfuss ( if he EVER gets his act together and finishes his story) this is an extremely well written book with nicely fleshed out interesting believable characters all with there strengths and weaknesses, a good plot, and good world building. Excellent writer and excellent narration as well. Though her screams can be a little grating they are appropriate.

Excellent continuation of the story

Great second book in a trilogy. Helena can be annoying some of the time. There were some wild twists in this one! Excited to continue. This is definitely not a series for anyone with a weak stomach. Amazing characters. I cried when one particular character died.

Took everything the first book did and did it better.

The political intruige, the crime, the conspiracy, the mysteries, and the necromancy are all back and better. The Justice of Kings was good, don't get me wrong, but this book took everything good about the last book and maximized it. I would recommend this to not just fantasy fans, but those into the crime genre too.

Not as good as the first

The plot sort of felt all over the place, and unlike the first book I didn't feel as engaged with the events that were happening. I did like the climax of the book, but getting there was a bit hard at times. Several times I had to stop the book and pick it back up again after weeks-long breaks until my interest could be piqued again.

I still plan to get the next book, but it felt like the writer was trying to fit too much into a single book.

Great adventure

Loved this latest book in the series. Vonvalt is a fascinating chapter who shows a bit of his romantic side in this story. I read historical romance so I loved these parts. This story would make a great film series with an amazing leading man.

Solid follow up

Lucy Patterson’s performance is amazing. This is definitely a solid, follow up to the first book. Looking forward to book 3.

Absolutely incredible!!!

Even better than the first! Such subtle and deeply flawed characters. Such a compelling and inexorable plot! I was so tightly wound through the last third or so it was causing me irl stress between listing sessions, haha.

But my favorite part about this series has to be the retrospective narrative by Helena. This is something that would typically not work for me (knowing the pov character will survive, knowledge of what’s to come, straightforward explanation of the characters’ feelings), but it somehow works so beautifully well I actually don’t understand how the author accomplished it.

I’m very glad I waited to start this book until the third was released. I started it immediately after finishing this one and I cannot wait to see how this story concludes.

Also, the reader is amazing!!! I can’t imagine this story without her narration. This is one of those that I’ll always hear in her voice, even when reading the text.

Excellent High Fantasy

honestly, I was concerned when I began this series that I would not enjoy it, following as it does a type of Law-men that I normally detest (ACAB), but by the end of the Justice of Kings, and certainly with A Tyranny of Faith I have been proven wrong. this is excellent high fantasy with deep political intrigue, riveting action, and compelling characters and lore. Give it a chance if you're in doubt!
