A USA TODAY Bestseller

From the New York Times bestselling author of The Last Unicorn comes a “gorgeous and vibrant and wistfully fantastic” (Travis Baldree, New York Times bestselling author of Legends and Lattes) new novel in which a loveable cast of characters trapped within their roles of dragon hunter, princess, and more must come together to take their fates into their own hands.

Dragons are common in the backwater kingdom of Bellemontagne, coming in sizes from mouse-like vermin all the way up to castle-smashing monsters. Gaius Aurelius Constantine Heliogabalus Thrax (who would much rather people call him Robert) has recently inherited his deceased dad’s dead job as a dragon catcher/exterminator, a career he detests with all his heart in part because he likes dragons, feeling a kinship with them, but mainly because his dream has always been the impossible one of transcending his humble origin to someday become a prince’s valet. Needless to say, fate has something rather different in mind…

Reseñas de la Crítica

"Shaun Taylor–Corbett delivers this fantasy audiobook with multifaceted voices and consistent pacing. In Bellemontagne, dragons are a nuisance that call for extermination. Robert is exceedingly talented at the job, but his love for dragons makes him detest the task. His empathy for them is so visceral that listeners will feel his pangs of loss...In tones of wonder, Taylor–Corbett’s performance enhances this heartwarming audiobook."

I loved the story and the characters so very much . I was sad when it ended .

Excellent writing

it took me a few chapters to really get into the.swing of the book but once the adventure hit I couldn't stop listening. Such a fun story that had me constantly wanting to know what will happen next.

a wonderfully fun story

the premis was interesting but the story felt insubstantial. overly detailed when not required and not enough detail in places leading to some minor disorientation. there are some good bones there that could be built on to really flesh out a very intriguing world.

I liked it

The reader had a very odd style, and it made it less enjoyable to listen to.

A very good story!

I don't want to be harsh or scathing, as we are all learning and improving day by day. However, this title was performed in a way in which I might assume one who isn't fluent in reading aloud might go about it.
The author uses an abundance of flowery, descriptive language throughout, but the delivery is halting and awkward in a good majority of the story throughout which mispronunciations are sprinkled (Had to pause when I heard a unique pronunciation of "ebon".)
There are moments where it seems like a line of text ended mid-sentence and the reader paused and restarted at the next line rather than looking ahead and finishing the thought in one breath.
For most things this was incredibly distracting, but I must admit that it always made me smile when a certain crown prince had any dialogue - the unsure manner of speaking was spectacularly fitting to his character and very entertaining.
All in all a nice listen if you enjoy the author's works and/or dragons as I do. I never write reviews, but I felt compelled to report the aspects of this performance that made my eye twitch!

A fun read, and slightly frustrating listen.
