Resumen del Editor

Five years ago, Clayton Rorick loved me. Or so I thought. Turned out he only wanted to get his hands on my daddy’s company. Heartbroken, I ran away with nothing but the clothes on my back. Like a twisted Cinderella. When my father dies, leaving my sisters in a desperate situation, it’s up to me to help them.

I'll have to beg the man who broke my heart to save us.

But Clayton hasn't forgotten me, and what he wants in exchange for his help is...my body, my heart, and my soul.

I couldn't get into these characters...

This is my first audio / book by this author. The main premise of the story is one of my favorites, which is why I wanted to try it out. The story's pace is OK but some parts are just slow and it takes away from the story. My biggest observation is that I couldn't seem to become invested in these characters. I wanted to be engaged in their story but it was too much of a back and forward and the sex / intimate moments became muted to me. The emotion felt secondary to the action and too much over thinking just turned me off. This was also my first audio with these narrators. They were good overall.

AN ENEMIES-LOVERS TALE LEADING TO SECOND-CHANCES

This was a new to me author and narrators.. and I pondered over getting this audiobook for a wee while before I finally gave in and got it - mainly because of the cover which (IMO) looked like a damaged powerful businessman with a shattered soul.. and I simply couldn’t resist his pull. And that definitely is Clayton Rorick.. but being brought up by a mean drunk who hated him shaped Clayton into the distant closed-off man he is today.. however, it’s love, and losing that love, that wrecks him. Because Clayton thought he could have it all by agreeing to a lucrative business deal by marrying his boss’s daughter in exchange for several things.. including a worthless but very important piece of land he desperately needed. But, when his naive fiancé overhears everything.. the wedding, their promises, the deal and all his hopes for their future together crumble.

Veronica (Ronnie) isn’t the ‘beautiful’ daughter out of the three King sisters but she is the oldest (20 I think) and she feels it’s her job (since their mother died when they were young) to look after her sisters because their Tycoon father is disinterested in mere girls to do anything other than let them continue to live at the Ranch. Or so Ronnie thought.. because, on the night of her and Clayton’s engagement party, she learns the awful truth of the ‘arranged marriage’ deal and its twisted terms.. so a very bitter and heartbroken Ronnie flees. And the plot skips over the five years where she successfully carves out a life for herself, starts a small business and shares a home with her sister. But the memories of the handsome man she once loved haunts her dreams.. together with the nightmares of that awful soul-destroying night when she uncovered the truth. Ronnie swore she’d never go back.. but then Clayton is suddenly before her.. and he brings news that will emotionally challenge her and change everything.. because she’ll do just about anything to keep her sisters safe.

After the initial drama, heartbreak and fleeing Prologue, there was a good build-up and balance to the story and the reawakening of their relationship.. with a tentative ceasefire, a revealing of secrets, a lowering of defences and promises to speak only truths.. then the true magic of second-chances happen. And it’s a good enemies-to-lovers second-chance love story with lots of family dynamics and drama, betrayal, sex, looking behind the mask, forgiveness, redemption and, of course, love.

Worth a credit? Yes.. BUT unfortunately my pet peeve of the constant “he said”.. “she says”.. ”he replied”.. “she asked” etc.. etc.. etc., was so bloody annoying that it stole some of the pleasure. The over-use of those should also be unnecessary if you’ve got fairly decent narrators.. and Iggy and Heather’s narration was ok during the dual POV storyline (which was mainly told from Ronnie’s POV). And I really wish it had an Epilogue.

Great Second Chance to Love!

This was my first Molly O'Keefe's book, and won't be my last. This is the first book in The King Family, a Series written by three authors. The cover is beautiful and attractive! Clayton and Veronica (Ronnie)'s second chance to love is well written. They share a strong chemistry. The secondary characters are interesting. The storyline has twists and turns, and secrets. I loved the ending. Heather Firth and Iggy Toma did a great job with the narration. They both have a great voice. Iggy Toma is a new narrator to me. Heather Firth is one of my favorite narrators. I enjoyed it. Looking forward to listen to the next books in the Series: Book 2 The Bodyguard by S. Doyle (Sabrina's story), Book 3 The Bastard by Julie Kriss (Dylan's story), Book 4 The Cowboy by Molly O'Keefe (Bea's story), and Book 4.5 One Last Chance, a novella by Molly O'Keefe.

eh

I thought it was a mediocre book. It had potential to go somewhere but didn't. I kept waiting for something and then we're at the end.
