Loving her will ruin my life, but I’m tired of living a lie.

Mabel Rossi is the heartbeat of The Hometown Heartless. The famous drummer with fast hands, faster wit, and a light that shines brightly even from the back of the stage. She’s temptation in lipstick and lace, and I’m just her manager’s niece. Married, invisible, and completely out of place.

Taking the job on tour was supposed to be a harmless adventure. Now that I’m here, far from home and my husband, I’m starting to remember who I was before I lost everything, and I have Mabel to thank for that.

Between stolen glances and whispered truths, She coaxes me from the darkness, until I can no longer hide from the lies I’ve buried under the life I don’t want.

I’m married to a man I’ve never loved. She’s so far out of reach it hurts to even want her. But in quiet hotel hallways and backstage corners, I start to crave things I shouldn’t.

Even if it’s reckless. Even if it’s wrong. Because with Mabel, I start to feel alive again. When she touches me, the fog lifts, and suddenly, I’m not so scared of tearing it all down just to feel the sun.

When narrators can bring characters to life, you know it’s a job well done. While I’m not really a fan of Emma Wilder and the way she more like whispers when she narrates, I found this story to be epic. When she voices a side character, it’s great. It’s just the way she has a more wispy voice for the main character that I’m not really a fan of. However, I still loved the story and found her ability to bring Aurora to life of the page was great. Samantha Brentmoor is pretty much exactly the voice of Mabel I’ve had in my head since book 1. She hit the nail on the head. I haven’t heard a lot of Anthony Palmini’s work but he’s great. I look forward to others he’s narrated.

So much emotion through these narrators

Mabes and Roar. I love them.
Another poetic masterpiece from the one and only Brit Benson.

Brit’s writing is my happy place and this book felt like coming home. Visiting with old friends. Mabel & Aurora’s story is book four in the Hometown Heartless series and this was such a special, heartfelt conclusion.

The Temptation of Truth features a delicious slow burn, opposites attract, friends to lovers, forced proximity, sapphic romance and it was tender, full of wisdom and light, and a truly undeniable and beautiful connection. Brit does such an incredible job of creating soulmates in her stories. Love in its truest form. Mabel and Aurora gave me butterflies and watching them bloom both together and apart was nothing short of magic.

As with all Brit Benson books, The Temptation of Truth is so much more than just a romance. It’s self-discovery, self-love, empowerment, resiliency, and healing. Brit writes with such care and attention creating real, raw, and authentic characters full of growth. The friendships and found family woven throughout this story (and series) made it that much more incredible.

Forever in awe of the way Brit incorporates all the little details to make each story fleshed out and stand on its own. I’ll never get tired of escaping into her stories.

Stop what you’re doing and go listen to this audiobook!!! It’s out now in duet narration by Samantha Brentmoor & Emma Wilder, with special appearance by Anthony Palmini and it’s incredible! The cast is a complete dream and, together with Brit’s brilliant words, it’s a true work of art. I already can’t wait to listen again.

I have been drooling over Samantha Brentmoor for years and she completely knocked it out of the park as Mabel. Truly the perfect Mabes. Her raw and powerful performance made me stop in my tracks multiple times. I wasn’t as familiar with Emma before but she absolutely became Aurora. I was in awe of the way she bled both vulnerability and strength. One of my favorite parts was hearing her speak Roar’s poetry. (side note: Brit wrote the most beautiful poetry. I’m in love.) These two truly brought Mabel and Aurora to life. Their delivery was captivating and emotional and I could feel every bit of their delicious tension. Anthony was such a fun addition and did a great job of making each of the male voices unique. The way he made me haaaate Brady.

This book is so special and the absolute perfect conclusion to an unforgettable series. Mabes & Roar forever.

If I had to choose the perfect way to say goodnight—never goodbye!—to The Hometown Heartless, this would be it. Two of my favorite narrators coming together to play two of my favorite characters? Absolutely epic.
The emotions they brought out for me? Legendary.

Aurora is brought on to tutor Brynn while The Hometown Heartless are touring Australia, and she has no idea how much her life will change with this job offer. Stuck in a marriage with a controlling man, she needed this more than she knew.
Mabel Rossi, the drummer, has relationship issues of her own and issues with her past as well, but she goes out of her way to make Aurora feel welcome because she sees her.

This meeting, this journey—their journey—will change their lives.

Samantha Brentmoor nailed it. The strength she lends Mabel while remaining vulnerable and genuine pulled me in. The way she listens and is there for everyone made me love her even more. And those last few chapters… She wrecked me in the best way. And her Sav Loveless? Spot. On!
Emma is flawless as Aurora, the woman who is still discovering who she is and realizing life can be… more. Who finally understands what love—real love—can be like. I related to Aurora a lot during the book, and listening to her only made it more meaningful to me.
Anthony Palmini… I already hated Brady, but you went and tripled it. It only shows how talented you are!

Listening as they became friends was heartwarming. Listening to the tension-filled moments as they opened up and came together was beautiful. Everything they went through brought them to their happily ever after, and experiencing it this way made it even more special. Samantha and Emma’s voices perfectly showcased all the love in this book: their love for each other, for themselves, and for the family they found along the way.

This is a story of personal growth. Of realizing who you are, what (and who) you want, and allowing yourself to take it, without apologies or second thoughts. Of loving fully and unconditionally.

Thank you, Sam and Emma, for making me cry. And thank you for the perfect Mabel and Aurora.

I will always reach for her. Always.
